I have decided to rebuild this hook loader


into a traditional UK 4 axle lorry, called 8 wheelers over here.
I've made a start
, still using the same cab

Foden has too many curves on the cab Leylands are much easier to do

Thanks for the positives, twin steering is not too bad to do.

Out at a local meeting to give it a decent run to see what shook loose. It survived the trip and only one nut shook loose .

I've even seen one variant that can side-lift a car (will try to dig up the vid link if anyone wants...)

And by the way it uses the chain-suspension on the lower corners, one could even lift flatbed assemblies as well as boxes, and level, where the units you are use to use the hook&arm and drag it onto the bed.

I'd be tempted, but hydraulics make me cringe... I'd have to start with one of the quarry-use articulated dumpers, or a wheel-loader.

The blue bottom pieces are behind the roll up sides as a standard fitting, the red top pieces of the sides on mine are plastic sheet.

That side lift looks a challenge to make , maybe it could be operated by a screw mechanism and small motor rather than hydraulics.

I've got round to starting the trailer, it is a scale 20 foot long to fit in with the UK laws on maximum length for lorry and trailer

i saw the ur second front axel it's not symetrical with first one,it's that effect the driving turn's?...good build.

I think I understand what you are asking.

Without getting too complicated, the second steering axle has to turn less than the front one to avoid excessive wear on the tyres.

so it makes turning better.

Time for a change again!
I've gone a model or so backwards to create a tilting cab Leyland Octopus



I sold a similar cab about a year ago and when I read a restoration article about a similar cabbed lorry, I decided I had to have another, still got things to do but that is the nature of my builds...always something else to add.
The green cab has gone onto another chassis so time was not wasted.

Looks good, is it an older version of the cab that was on it? I guess it's nice if I you get bored with some thing you can just mix it up a bit!
