Anyone ever build an Oshkosh truck? This may be a future build for me, either a 4x4 or 6x6 P-series.

I know there have been a couple of people that built a HEMTT military truck. Does that count?

Yes, there was a guy on Scale 4x4 that scratchbuilt a couple Oshkosh plow trucks, but in a smaller scale. 1:24th or something. They are cool trucks. They seem to keep their old school, rugged looks, even after all the years.

I started to look at the drive terrain and it appeared I'd have $450 just in axles, aarrgg! Then the tranny, haven't looked at wheels, tires ect. yet. I'd like to have it dump also and maybe hydros for the plow.

Ouch. What kind of axles are you looking at? If Tamiya, you could just buy a truck off E-Bay and take what you need from it. Or buy used axles from other guys on the rock crawler / scale 4x4 forum - front axle. Tamiya now offers TLT-1 axles, complete. Unless you are looking for metal axles, like RC Channel's?

I'm still searching for measurments, I still have to find a wheel tire combo. I was thinking a tandem dump with a screw drive, and mabe a plow later.

I downloaded a brochure pdf from their web site. It has good enough stuff for a start.

Yeah they were aluminum. I don't have the knowledge of what to use really. I did think of finding a used truck of some sort, like a f-350 or something use use parts from. I will look into it some more. Prob. a ways off though.
