Will this radio work?

I have been reading as much as I can on the radio systems for what is compatible with the Tamiya trucks and the MFU unit. I am interested in using one of these radios http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXXMV6&P=7 , but not sure if it will work, or if I should be looking at a radio with more channels.

On the tamiya site this is what it says:
"Please be advised when choosing a radio for your Tamiya Semi, you need to figure out what your final goal will be. Your choice is between an Analog or Digital trimmed 4ch radio.


If you plan on using your semi without an MFU (Multi-Function Unit), you can use either type radio.
If you even think you might use an Tamiya MFU on your semi, please only use a Analog radio.

Digital trim radios "WILL NOT" work with Tamiya MFU units.


How Can I tell if my radio is Analog or digital trim?

Analog - Radio Trims slide from one end to the other
Digital - Radio Trims are only switches and click in either direction, No Sliding

I had that remote before and while i didnt have the mfu installed it should work just fine since it is an analog remote.

true but i tried the 2.4 futaba radio which doesn't like the mfu so i got the futaba fm with analog trims ..works great .also my spektrum dx7 works great also but its a bit pricey

I am using a digital trim 6ch with the mfu and all works fine

Would it be a good idea to get a 6 channel in case I ever wanted to add additional features to the truck?

Yes, it would be a good idea to get a minimual of 6 ch's for future expansion. If you are going to take advantage of the full functionality of the mfu, and the gear shifting function on the transmission, you will need 6 ch's. Choices are many, but most of the guys here use, Dx, Airtronics, or futaba brand. I am partial to the Airtronics RDS8000 as a good entry level 2.4 radio/works well with MFU.

Another question on the radio's here. I have been reading about them and they don't specify that they have end point adjustments. I never was an airplane guy so I don't know if these radios have the epa adjustment, do they? I've been using pistol grip radios for so long now that I'm not familiar with the stick radios anymore. Are they as adjustable as the "ground" radios?

Most newer radios have EPA available in the settings, spectrum and Airtronics I know do from my own models dx7i and a rds8000
