OK, so with the frustration the paint has been giving me on my Optimus Prime build, i need to make something where i can feel like i'm making progress.
So, before i build my M1070, i'm going to build another King Hauler with the various extra bits i have left over from the OP build. I've ended up with a spare headache rack, grille, headlights, and all sorts of bits and pieces, so need to use them up! Have a bunch of bits on the way, and started a flatbed trailer today, but am trying to decide what to build exactly. These are 4 of my leading candidates, I'm not going for an exact replica this time, more of an "inspired by" kind of thing. I'm leaning mostly towards the 4th (red/white), or #3 (Orange). Possibly doing the orange one like the General Lee (flag on the roof, 01 on the sides). The black one is the lowest, but i still like it. Maybe next time? lol Thoughts? |

I like #3 myself, of the two you prefer. #2 is the one I'd suggest doing if it were me

Only reason #2 is low on the list is that i have one of Brians ali grilles spare. Would be a shame to paint it black.

I like the forth truck best, third truck second.

#4 the best with #3 a close second. The color combo looks cleaner on #4.

If you do #3 or #4, it will still have the double-light headlights, right? I think it would look better rockin' doubles. ![]() It does seem like you are just replacing one crazy paint job with another! ![]() ![]() Can't wait to see an update!

It'll be based on 4.
And yes it will have double headlights, have a pair spare. Have decided not to do the doublehump fenders from the pic, but mostly because i'm going to do it as a tri-axle. Oh and its always good when you get a box of goodies arrive ![]() |

Have made a start! Gives me something to work on while waiting for primer to dry on the OP build!
I'm changing the front fenders, and have extended the hood. Chop chop. |

Bob, I could never cut a line that straight on these bodies, but you sure can! Nice to see you're starting another truck. Looking forward to the progress, especially after seeing what you are capable of, on your Optimus Prime build.

I cheated though, I cut along existing lines on the body :P

The best part is that it goes as fast or slow as you want, and can instantly change directions, or do 90-degree angles. I used this method for cutting my fenders off, and it worked like a charm! ![]() Tape also works great as a "guide line". Here is a video of the process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XDFoKaRAhc Sorry to go off on this, Bob. Did you use an X-Acto? What is your plan for the fenders?

Actually as i mentioned in my OP thread, i used a scribing tool to cut it.
Theres already an engraved panel line where the hood meets the cab, so easy to scribe along to cut. And to cut the sides out, i scribed along the raised line with rivets on. Simple. The fenders will be a simple thin round ones kinda like this: ![]() I've a;ready cut some poly pipe to size, just gotta clean it up a bit before attaching. I've also sanded all the puttied areas now, and re-puttied a few spots that needed it. And have removed all the bolt detail. But i will be replacing the bolts. |

Got the sides of the hood trimmed up, cut the fenders from polypipe, and added a side to them from styrene. Have to smooth off the bottom of the fenders, and may add a small lip to them on the inner radius.

Bob, I remember the scribing tool. Once again, I never thought about using it to cut a body up. Good idea! Your latest updates are looking great. I imagine you'll have this one knocked out in no time.
