After the carson lift flop with my full frame trailer I decided to build a R model dump truck. It will be all business just like the old Mack's were. This is based off a early R model in the 66'-72' short cab model. It will have the old square fuel tanks and a straight stack. I started building a cab visor and battery boxes and should have the fuel tanks done tomorrow. Another mod will be adding a few heavy leafs in the rear springs to support the weight of a good load of dirt.
Built on a king hauler frame, front axel moved forward, motor and trans relocated forward over the servos, I used the Carson lift and motor placed in the frame center where the esc and RX will also live. I used a rc4wd driveshaft end to connect the lift motor and screw drive. The battery will live under the hood/cab where it can be easily accessed as the cab and hood pivot up and out of the way at the front bumper. Rc4wd budd rims for now but may switch over to spokes. Rc4wd metal driveline with carrier bearing due to length of driveshaft between trans and first axel... Thanks for looking ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Did you scratch build that cab? That looks nice. I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on that Carson screw drive. I've been considering one for a dump trailer. I'm curious to know how well it performs.

I bought the mack cab 2nd hand. Not sure where it was made. Im impressed with it.The lift might be a knock off by lesu...i got it on ebay from joes ...it works nice and smooth and seams suited better suited for short box 6 or 10 wheeler end dumps. When installing You have to find the "sweet spot" in the frame to bolt it in. Bolted in To far forward it will not lift the box very high. To far rearward and I question the strain it would see trying to lift the load. I mounted mine between the axels to get good hight and good leverage. Where it's mounted it sits about 15mm above the frame rail so that it clears the axels and allows them to articulate? This is ok because the tires will extend about 5 mm above the rails. Here are some pics focust on the lift.

I kinda got lucky with the amount of angle....If I moved it any further forward between the axels it would come into contact with the top of the forward tandem axel and then the box in the lowered position would have to sit another 5mm higher off the frame. If I placed it in front of the forward tandem I would not get as steep of an angle I think it was under 45 iirc...I want this thing to dump and it all slide out. My next hurdle will be an automatic tailgate lock. I want it to release as the box goes up and lock just as it lowers.. I have an idea but want to mount the bed first...

Got some more Plastic work done tonight...started on the fuel tanks and added some detail to the battery boxes. The fuel tanks will get covered in some diamond plate. I just wanted a solid thick plastic to make a sturdy tank that will hold up to abuse.
Sadly my local hobby shop closed a few weeks back. I have to order some more plastic on line now and wait for supplies to ship to me by end of this week... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hey nice truck, I am currently working on a king hauler dump I was wondering where are you going to put the battery? i ended up making my lift mechanism for the dump body almost the same as yours but I made the motor pivot so I did not need to use a universal joint.
