Bruder D11
I've had the new Bruder D11 model sitting on the shelf for a while and finally I had enough time to tackle the conversion. I have to say that the level of detail on this model is quite impressive and the plastic is quite beefy...it's almost like Bruder knows these are going to be used for conversions.
I am using Pololu 99:1 geared motor as my drives and at 7.2v it should produce about 200 oz/in torque per motor. First I made an axle to connect the motor to the drive wheel and hub. |

Re: Bruder D11
Those motors will work but the speed to toque ratio is very high. Reducing the voltage down to 7.4 will cut the speed but also will cut the torque rating too........ something around 150:1 would be much more suitable......if you have access to those motor.....don't want to discourage you, but wanted to let you now before you buttoned everything up.

Re: Bruder D11
It's going to be a fast dozer! Those motors are 100rpm at 6v. I like how you have them set up though.

Re: Bruder D11
I agree the dozer will not be to scale speed but I had these motors kicking around so I figured I would use them. I can always adjust the EPA's on my radio to scale the speed back. Plus I have so much rc stuff from years of racing and building etc that I told myself that I will use what I have and not buy more stuff (let's see how long that lasts...). More pics and progress coming soon.

Re: Bruder D11
Looking good.Have you tested the range of motion? Is the servo strong enough?

Re: Bruder D11
I thought about mounting a similar blade setup like that but ended up going with screwdrive type rams. Interested to see how that works out!

Re: Bruder D11
The range of motion is perfect, it travels exactly to the physical stops/limits on the model. I am using metal gear servos on each side so it is plenty strong it has an approximate combined torque of almost 100 oz/in.

Re: Bruder D11
So I got the dozer almost done. I decided not to automate the ripper as I have my doubts about the tracks holding up to the strain of ripping. I want to test it first and perhaps add some different grousers. I need to make the orange flashers and clean up some wiring and painting/weathering and it will be fully done. In the meantime here are some almost finished photos.

Re: Bruder D11
Thanks so much! Just need some decent weather so I can ge this thing out.
Most hobby stores carry LED light kits, I find the E flite kits work well to get the desired affect. But on these custom conversions I just end up making my own LED's. |
