Re: RCP Compound
Well I traded in my hermit status this last week. I had few separate out of town friends end up at our place over the last week so there was a lot of socializing and hanging out going on. Yesterday things went quiet around here again so after some work related stuff I played a little with the big toys...

Re: RCP Compound
I haven't spent much time working on the compound over the last week but I have spent a few minutes here and there running my Dozer conversion. The more I run it the more I enjoy it! I'm actually really impressed with it considering it is a light little machine.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt39RDadXgw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxHTinEmeV0 I originally controlled the blade tip using the electronics from a 360 degree servo but I couldn't get it to stop creeping forward all the time. I received a package from Hobby King last week containing some of their cheap esc's so I swapped out the servo guts for one of them and now it works perfect. It's nice to be able to angle the cutting edge where you want it as well as tilt the balde. I am not very good at running it yet but it's fun to try! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDn2hOg6FUU |

Re: RCP Compound
Looks like it pushes good for a lite-weight dozer. Your drive motors seem to be a good match for the size and weight of the model. Nice play area-with a lot of dirt to move. Looks like fun.

Re: RCP Compound
I haven't made any time to play in the compound for about a week so yesterday I decided it was time once again to haul some more dirt. I cheated and loaded the Hayes with a shovel but at least I spread out the hauled material with the Cat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SGKycIPt-8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH3GCFaZa_M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKO-LZyc6iA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTwZ8D6QlQU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZAGTCeNvsA I love this shot! I wasn't very impressed with this dozer when I first did the conversion but the more I run it and learn how to operate it the better it gets. I am really happy with it now and being able to tip and tilt the blade makes it a lot of fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4gjArbA1Nc Thanks for looking! |

Re: RCP Compound
Nice videos of the Hayse and the Bruder. Do you plan on making a steel version of the dozer?

Re: RCP Compound
Thanks. No plans of that anytime soon. All of the functioning parts on this are aluminum so I don't see much point in upgrading to steel. If I do a metal dozer it will be a 1/10 D8H or D8K. I like modeling older equipment and that would tie in nicely with the rest of my 1/10 stuff.

Re: RCP Compound
Again reg, awesome pics!! Just something about the Pacific Northwest forest that I love!! When , if ever, the mean lady at the lottery counter quits selling me bad tickets I'll be moving to Seattle or Vancouver.!!! Yeah, you might need to check in with financial at the RCP offices, I think you need another bigger machine like a d9-d10 to fit in with the Hayes. Make some logging roads quick!! That would be cool in 1:10 scale.

Re: RCP Compound
That woman is selling you tickets too? I thought she saved those losers for us. Friends of ours just one the set for life lottery. They chose the $675K payout instead of 1K per week for 25 years. I feel good for them as they have their first child on the way but the kicker is he's a doctor and his parents are millionaires! I guess that's the way it goes. The rich get richer!lol
Anyway, I may not have any money but I do have this and I feel very fortunate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVam-art_WI Reg |

Re: RCP Compound
Roger on the 1:10 scale. Th at seems like a good middle ground. Looks like they are big enough to work, and still small enough to haul places.

Re: RCP Compound
1/10 scale is really nice as far as power and weight is concerned but it requires so much more space. My Kenworth is twice as wide as a King Hauler and nearly twice as long. The extra size and weight does add realism though that's for sure. I figure a D8K in 1/10 scale will be similar in size and weight to RW's D11 though so it won't be super huge... just huge.
Here's a few pictures I took of the compound from the shop roof today. Looks pretty quiet out on the roads at the moment!lol |

Re: RCP Compound
I know the weather can be an issue with your outside compound, but the room for expansion and imagination for the extra space has got to be keeping you awake!
I am watching and learning, and I plan on building in 1:10 scale. Some models I'm considering are the HET, Payhauler 350, and a D11T. |

Building in a larger scale is good and bad. Personally I like the bigger equipment but it isn't very common and that forces you to make nearly everything from scratch. It also makes things more difficult if you get together at a show where everyone else is running 1/14 and all of the display is setup for that. Building in 1/14 can be like cheating. You can buy almost anything imaginable and just bolt it together if you want to go that route. I do think that scratch building in 1/14 is more difficult than in 1/10 though. Given that I make all of my parts out of aluminum it is much harder to keep details when the pieces are so much smaller. If you choose to build a D11 in 1/10 that will be huge but the added size will probably make it easier to build. Just make sure you build some loading ramps along with it! Re: RCP Compound
The d11 in 1/10 scale would be 3-1/2' long from blade to ripper!! Whatever it was made out of , steel or alum, it would still be too heavy for easy pick up and transport!!! Although, I would really appreciate the internal area, might actually be able to get my fingers in there!! I really wanted to build in 1:10 or 1:12 scale but the tamiya stuff is 1:14 so I went that way. And like you said reg, unless you can make everything, anything other than 1:14 is tough getting parts.

Re: RCP Compound
Yeah that would be a bit large for me. If I was going to build something that large then I would step it up to 1/4-1/5 scale so that I could sit on it!

I know it has its issues when it comes to shows and when your friends bring their 1:14 stuff over, but we don't have a big rc construction crowd here local. |

I had the "boss" out driving in the compound yesterday. She is a bit hard on the equipment and likes to see where the Mack will go before it gets stuck but that's OK. I just get to push it out using the dozer.lol It was a lot more fun to have my wife out there with me having some laughs and adding to the road. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LApmlxrS8lY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLYT1mGdv5c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxroPSMTmVg Last edited by RCP57; 05-09-2015 at 09:26 AM. |
