Taking a clue from roadranger's comments, I decided to try a slightly different version of using a spring to keep the 5th wheel at a better angle. I cut a paper clip and just glued it in place.


Then I reassembled the 5th wheel.




Now it sits better. The angle should be more aggressive and the super glue will likely not hold long term, but it's a good proof of concept that I can tweak.
