I've looked at the Tamiya Globe Liner for years before I finally broke down and bought one, I always liked cab over engine semi trucks. This build Im posting took place over a couple years. I bought my kit from RC Mart as it was the best deal with shipping to Canada at the time. I ordered the truck, Futaba 4YWD 2.4 radio, and the Tamiya Multi Function Control Unit along with a couple basic servos to get me started.
![]() ![]() I bought Knight Hauler frame rails a couple years ago as I've had the idea of a stretched Globe Liner for sometime. I had to drill and tap a few mounting holes to make it work. Here's a bad pic of first assembly. ![]() Laying things out for a custom front end. Headlights are cut down from the rear bumper lights. You can also see the mount I built for the speaker behind the grill. ![]() Filler piece made and I made the grill from aluminum sheet and the factory mesh. ![]() I also moved the front axle forward and started the body work to move the wheel well forward to match. ![]() Filler piece made to reshape wheel well. ![]() Made a frame rail cover from aluminium, drilled and tapped frame rails to mount it. ![]() And started painting some parts, primed then sprayed some Tamiya Red. ![]() Here she is after some paint, still only rear wheel drive at this point. ![]() ![]() More to come |

Here's the Tamiya TLT axle mounted. Don't mind the JBL weld, I replaced the cracked axle housing later on. You can also see how I mounted the front leaf spring mount, this is how I moved the front axle forward. I used aluminium round bar thru the front bumper mount with a screw from the top side to hold it in place. And to get the front ride height just right I shaved some of the plastic from the axle housing where the leaf mounts to it and I also removed a leaf to get the front end lower.
![]() I also moved the tranny rearwards in the frame to allow a workable angle for the front drive shaft. Here you can also see the mount I built to hold the MFC unit under the cab. The speaker is in the front between the seats. I also added new LESU tires ![]() I lengthened the 3 speed output shaft on the front by building it up with my welder and shaping it on the bench grinder. This gave me a mounting point for the front drive shaft. Shafts were made from traxxas and axial parts. ![]() Axle shaved, alloy C hubs installed and painted. Also notice how i mounted my MFC control board in the gas tank. ![]() And after lots of masking here's the final paint job. ![]() New front bumper as well ![]() Testing out the 6 wheel drive ![]() |

Next up was the trailer build, Tamiya Flatbed. As a first time builder of one of these I was surprised by the all the parts in the trailer kit.
![]() Finished build out in the snow, alloy wheels on the trailer. ![]() ![]() ![]() I knew when I got the trailer that I'd be making it longer for a more scale look. Mounting up suspension to new trailer frame, I like my axles all the way to the back. ![]() ![]() The stretch ![]() ![]() Building new deck using aluminium and Tamiya wood deck planks ![]() I also polished all the aluminium ![]() Stickers added for some detail and a coat of varnish on the planks ![]() ![]() ![]() The polished aluminium really pops in the sun ![]() ![]() |

As happy as I was with the flatbed trailer build I really wanted a low boy so I got the RC4WD lowboy designed by SemiJoe. This is the trailer I wanted from the beginning but I could not justify the price at the time. But Tower Hobbies started selling these so I was able to use member discounts and Easy Pay to ease the pain lol...but I'll probably still end up selling the flatbed.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And with a load on, CAT Dozer (Bruder, Non RC, for now) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And just for fun, not to scale, SMT10. ![]() ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og0KofVum6k Last edited by markturbo; 11-23-2017 at 10:49 AM. |

Really nice build. I appreciate the fact your truck is a 6X6 but doesn't look like a crazy oil field or lifted truck, nice job!

Could you please tell me if the front lights on your Globe Liner conversion are the rear bumper tail lights? And if so, what clear lenses did you use please?
