Default First R/C build: Cat 6015B 1:14 scale

Hello all, ive been contemplating building a 1:14 scale excavator for some time , and its finally happening due to a change in work commitments. Being a fan of the big cats i have chosen a 6015B for my project. This is the new version of the 6015, but is more similar to the old cat 5110B in shape and build.

With no machine to go from ive printed the pictures from the Cat specalog in the correct scale and started drawing up models to suit. Its going to be BIG! 4.5 inch flap wheel to give you an idea on size

The bucket side was a quick drawing and 3d printed to compare to the specalog to confirm the modelling was at the correct scale, all found to be ok so on with the tracks. The 6015B uses the same pitch chains as a D11, so a few measurements and a pad and link assembly was drawn up and printed and assembled for fit. This was then followed by a double grouser pad which is correct for this style of excavator

Thanks for the comments, im a mechanical engineer by trade and ex Cat service engineer so have alot of knowledge of the caterpillar products. Thats what i was thinking, big model, plenty of space for all the hydraulics and batteries! Its going to be steel and brass in construction so will be quite a heavy lump!

Its funny that most of us are probably middle age with bad knees or backs yet we keep buying or building bigger and heavier machines. We will have to hire young kids to haul our machines around for us.

This is a telling pic... your feet bout 2 foot apart? Will the GLR be about 6feet (2m)?

That will be a BEAST!!!

Have you seen this guy's build? The size would be comparable.

Rough sizes are as follows if i build the machine in mass excavation arrangement, short boom and short stick.

Undercarriage: 500 mm long x 350 mm wide
Height to top of counterweight : 330mm
Reach : 1000m
Total over all length : 1.4m

Will be a very similar size to the pc1800 build

Why the mass/ex version? I think the greatest feature of the Vario model that sets it above everyone else is its 1400mm reach & it still has oodles of power to dig virgin ground.

What's the longest boom & stick combo offered in the 6015B series?

the standard stick is 3.4M and longer stick is 4.1M, will give slightly more reach but not too much. I am toying with the idea of a few different booms and stick arrangements for it, so i can chop and change as i feel. Maybe even a demolition boom setup

No idea on weight as yet, 100lbs-140lbs at a guess knowing how i build things!
