Very nice! I was thinking while watching that there has to be some way to attach some kind of noisemaker to the motor that would replicate the Detroit Diesel sound like clamping a playing card to a bicycle so it makes a dirt bike sound flapping in the spokes.

I have been working on the power-shift transmission. This is an experiment and needed some proper preparation, including calculating ratios, making accurate drawings, etc. Quite the challenge!
The Clark series 6000 is the example. ![]() ![]() I omitted the forward/reverse clutches. An electric switch can take care of that and it saves space. ![]() I use leather as clutch material. ![]() ![]() The middle shaft on the left is the input shaft and I still need to figure out how to connect that to the motor, an 540 CRAWLER BRUSHED MOTOR 80T. I am still making all the components and I am not sure if it all will work. Making the frame demanded a lot of accuracy. My Southbend was up to it! I did a lot of measuring at every stage to make sure things will fit OK. ![]() So far so good. I plan to control the clutches with 2 servos. W'll see how that works out! I am in self-imposed isolation in my workshop, so lots of time to work on the Clark transmission. Here a few pictures of progress. i worked on the clutch assemblies today, still not finished though. Lots of little parts. ![]() ![]() I will connect the input shaft (top middle ) with a flexible coupling to the motor with reduction case. The output shaft (bottom middle gets a bolt-on divider to go to both rear axles. Kerst |

Due to the crisis I have lots of time for the gearbox. It slowly comes together. I finalized the input and output sides. I hadn't thought about these at all when I started building the gearbox, so some adjustments needed to be made.
I also had to adapt the whole assembly so it would fit in the truck! ![]() ![]() Next are the levers to control the shifting. See how that works out!! Kerst |

Today I did my first test run and I took a short video.
It is a 4-speed power-shift and the first and second speed work nicely. The third works OK, but the fourth speed seems to take all the power. Too much friction or too much speed. I will consider a bigger reduction between motor and gearbox. Kerst, it's an amazing concept and build, as usual for you. Maybe the glitch is that you don't have enough machinery moving in this driveline!!! LOL!!! All the shafts, gears, joints, clutch packs, etc. - just a marvel to watch. Are you using servos to engage the clutch packs?
Your design would make a great 2-speed for highway trucks - much less gear slop (free play) than the Tamiya mechanism. Reminds me of Clark transmissions in the real trucks, with clutch packs on the outside at the end of the shafts. Anyway, keep up the awesome work! Ken

Yes, I know about that rework stuff. My Payhauler had a 2:1 motor reduction so top speed matched the prototype. I have three speeds, real one had 7 speeds. I was short on power when bed was full of dirt, so changed to 3:1 - made a huge difference in low end power and seldom need the top end speed anyway, so all is good.
Do you have any in-process pictures of the u-joints you fabricated? Great job with them. Ken

I added another motor. It might be overkill and it is easy to take it away. I can also easily change the reduction between motors and gearbox. Now it is 1:4. I tried it with the battery with a much steadier output than the transformer. That is good news!
I bought some micro servos to control the transmission. There is not a lot of space, so one of them sits outside the cab. I usually got better run times with two motors vs one, lower amp draw not working so hard. I hooked the two motors together in series, simplifies the wiring.
