That block really turned out nice Kerst. Do you think glue will hold up to time on that boom section?

For once I have the feeling that I made a lot of progress. I glued the 4 boom sections together and i am quite happy with the result.
As you can see there is still lots to do. ![]() ![]() Kerst |

I worked on the boom a bit. It is pretty straightforward, but I haven't had too much time lately. Here are 2 pictures of the progress i made:

Thanks for the compliments!
I managed to do a lot of work on the boom. All 4 sections are ready and the boom head is almost ready. Next is the telescope mechanism. I think it is going to be a variation on the single cylinder system. ![]() ![]() ![]() I put it all together and tried it out. really great looking build Kerst! All of the thought and creativity put into this thing is way beyond my ability, which makes it even more fun for me to follow along!
would you mind sharing where you got the tires for your rig from? |

I did a lot of fixing. there were problems with the electric feed through the slewing ring, the gearbox jammed and I fixed the main winch, which did not run smoothly. One of the outriggers was not working and so on.
I also started designing the telescoping mechanism. i will be using the oil tanks on the side of the boom to hide 2 motors, which will drive a single spindle, which will be able to rotate 45 degrees either way and in this way pick up one of the 3 sections, basically simplified way the modern cranes work. I made a few videos, not great quality, but they show the first trials. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykWapUiaxGA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prlzG1XcgoQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6hGbbX0zFA Kerst Last edited by kerst; 07-29-2011 at 11:51 AM. |

Here another video, this time the crane is going up a ramp in low gear. The 16 x 8 drive is hardly sufficient.
