BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
Since we have a place for boats I guess I will post a few pictures of my commercial longliner build from January of this year. I have grown up around this stuff so this build was fairly easy and quick(maybe a little rushed here and there too). It also helps when you are building whatever you want and not following any plans. In real life this boat would be about 42', the model is 28"long and has a draft of about 6". Now that I have the DX6I and DX8 one of them will become the radio for this and that will allow me to motorize some of the stuff on the deck this winter.

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
Your boat looks good. I like the use of aluminum for the construction.
What did you use to weld it together? Ken |

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
The only video that I have of it running is to high of quality for my old computer so I have no way to edit and post it. I will take some video with my cell phone soon and post it up. The boat is slow(which it should be) so there isn't much to see though!

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
Just now found this. It looks great! Just need to throw out the flopperstoppers and hit the open water. If I didn't know you were from BC already I would have guessed it was a Canadian boat. I had a '47 vintage 43' for a year that came down from BC. The Canucks know a thing or two about boatbuilding. I've wanted to build a troller and drag flies and spinners around the local trout pond but I think the authorities take a dim view of it.

Very nice, sitting on the water it looks like the real deal, first time I've ever seen an alum scale boat, looks like you nailed it.

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
Hey Guys, Thanks for the complements on the boat! My Grandfather built and repaired commercial fishboats most of his life so I guess it's in my blood too, unfortunately no one builds new larger boats here anymore because there's no need for it anymore.
Jared, I actually could (and have) thrown out the "flopperstoppers" cause it does have them! It took a bit of fiddling to get them to work right at full speed though. I haven't used it to tow a lure yet because I'm affraid that I might actually catch something and roll it over! Reg |

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
I liked this build, when you posted a few photos of it elsewhere on the forum. The fact that's all aluminum, is really unique. I don't follow boat builds much, but this is one of the first, if not only, boat I've seen done in aluminum. Most are fiberglass and/or styrene. Very cool.

Aluminum, that makes this build interesting. Not many people go that route.

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
How does the motor / driveshaft/ propeller go through the hull. I'm interested in doing a boat, but not sure how to go about the hull pass though part...
Thanks Cody |

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
You can buy a shaft tube from a hobby shop or online. You can get them in various lengths too. It's just a tube with a plastic bushing at each end that the prop shaft passes through. Fill it with grease and your good to go!

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
This is still one of the coolest boats I've seen. It's all aluminum. Who builds them like that, besides Reg? Just awesome. And it really floats!
Reg, is the Jackfish still all raw aluminum, or did you paint it?

Re: BC coast longliner "Jackfish"
Yeah it was relaxing for sure. This is the only model that I have built that has no kinks. Turn it on and drive it around.haha I have another boat in the works but it isn't for me.
Only the bottom is painted Nate. The rest is just bare aluminum. Reg |
