Re: 3D printing KH Body Attempt
Kaf, Youngunz, thanks for commenting. Was thinking of using lexan and spraying the backside with a dark lexan paint.

Re: 3D printing KH Body Attempt
Goose, Thank you. Thats a good model of a t800. Id probabaly make it a little less rounded on the roof, But thats pretty close..Everyone has a different eye for what they like. Thanks again.
Joe, my thoughts exactly. Thanks!

Re: 3D printing KH Body Attempt
Some progress pics to share. Made a new bumper which should be a little more forgiving off pavement. Got my headlights figured out...Square clear lenses from Rick worked out pretty good. Shortened the fuel tank(which i need to figure out how to lower 1/4" or so) and gave it a few coats of "Black Sinister". And found a few brass hinges that work for the hood. It opens enough to get access to whatever i need.
Waiting on a bunch of parts to finish it up, cant really go any further till i get my breathers. Then i can run wire, finish body work and paint hopefully. I dont think its looking too bad.

Re: 3D printing KH Body Attempt
Looks wicked Jason the hood and grill height is a little more than a 1:1 but it definitely adds to the sinister look. I love it
Looking forward to the next update Mario |

Re: 3D printing KH Body Attempt
Looking good Jason! I like the new front bumper. Seeing the cab and hood with some paint on them, and from above, in your one photo, really makes me appreciate the printing process. That's just pretty darn amazing to see a finished product like this. Crazy question, but what does a 3D printing machine, like you have, cost? I know these aren't cheap. I'm just wondering if it's comparable to something like a milling machine or lathe?

Re: 3D printing KH Body Attempt
Mario, thanks . I do think the hood is a bit high but after looking at it from a few feet away straight on it looks better than the pictures represent. I pretty happy with it. A buddy of mine had an 05 w900b and it always looked a bit bulldogish with the short high hood and even from the side profile the front of the hood looked tall like the cab was leaning back a tad. I think it's close to that. I designed this from just looks and without any hard measurements. Next time I'm gonna scale down a 1:1 and eliminate the guess work. First time..not too bad I think.
Nate, thx man. The printer I have is called the Afinia, Octave systems sells it in US. About 1800.00. I did the same thing and looked at desktop milling machines and decided to go this route cause it was cheaper and seemed like it had many uses, which it does. Comes in handy for around house too. Made countless little gadgets easily and fairly quick like brackets, holders, toys etc.. It was worth the money IMO. Thank you Lost.

Re: 3D printing KH Body Attempt
Looks good!
If it were my call I would say the hood height is bang on, it's the fenders that are too low/small. Not by much though....KW W900's sit high/tall compared to most other hooded trucks. |
