Time to improve the beast!
- Finish buckets - Take out the worm gear swing drive and replace with Joe's option - Redo the cab interior. Was sent to me as the 1:12.......blah - Counterweight is going to get quick disconnect (gets in the way when lifting the model) - Rewire and possibly add SMX and speaker enclosure. - Stop stick pin from working it's way out during operation. - Weathering to make it look more "accurate" |

Stripping all parts off (Hope to get the cylinders painted too)
![]() Had to make an adapter for the new swing driveshaft. Pretty satisfying making my own parts! ![]() |

Bah, no offense to Joe, but even his doesn't look the full-scale part when it's uncleaned. It certainly helps, but I'd like to get really detailed with the weathering.

fake weathering belongs to plastic models in dioramas.
leave it be!

Great job on the new buckets. Go wild with the weathering, the more time you spend adding detail to them the better they look. Keep up the good work.

I disagree. I could cake this thing in dirt, never clean it, and it still won't look like a full-scale machine. The body is made of fiberglass, that won't rust. Even if you "leave it be" you gotta transport it somehow. Fingerprints don't look so hot on a scale model.

I say some nicely done (not overkill) detailing would look very nice Nate! Go for it!

Looking forward to this one, Nathan! I think this could look spot on when you're done with it

I'm tired of the model looking like it's made of plastic instead of metal. Just look how shiny that boom arm is! I guess that's the idea behind my weathering. If you wanna call it fake or modeling, I suppose that's in the eye of the beholder.

doodlebug - so you leave your stuff outside? I'd be divorced before night fall the next day if I did that????? I don't dsut em off but I must agree with Nate - they just don't look like the 1:1 units. I don't do it on my units cause I don't have the skill set to pull it off......

Yah, no building for the 10 wheeler or the yellow iron, suck's, but that's life!
But then the panel's on my Cat 305CCR don't even fade evenly, kinda odd to me? Look at Cat backhoe cab's and how the plastic roof fade's to white. What few RC toy's that I have, well they're dust queen's for now, and inside. Cheer's, Neil. Quote:

Got the stick pin all finished up. Not wild about the look of the socketcap but it'll do for now. Special thanks to Lynn (tc1cat) for all the tips he's given me to help me along in my machining endeavors.

All of your upgrades look nice. You might try a button head capscrew instead of the regular allen head capscrew. They are much shorter in height and should blend in better or find a brass screw.
