This dump trk build really appeals my interest! It'd be a perfect addition for my fleet.
![]() When you get it built Ken I can put it to work right away! ![]()

Awesome project! And I thought the 1/25 models were impressive. This is an amazing build. (as are so many on this forum) You certainly have the credentials and research down. Dan

I'm loving this build! If only for the simple fact that I had the 1/64 scale Ertl diecast model as a kid too, and I know it's around here somewhere still. Plus I've always been an IH fan too. This truck really is unique in a sea of large dump trucks. It just as a neat look about it, and though I don't know these trucks inside and out, I think you are doing a great job of replicating it in scale! Your frame, axles, and spring packs look awesome. This thing is going to look excellent as a finished model. I can't wait to see it all finished up.

It has been a long time since last post but I do now have two new grandsons that I'm working at spoiling and having a great time with.
Pics show the work done over past couple of months. The transmission shift servo is inside the rightside fuel tank. Next step is to finish mounting front axle to springs and install front driveline. Ken, the updates are looking great! I was hoping this project didn't get lost. Wow, that chassis looks really scale, and perfect. The cab is well on it's way too. You are very talented with the mill and lathe! I love watching scratchbuilds like this take shape. Please keep the updates coming.

Woohoo! I was wondering what was happening with this! Great job! I'm so happy to see some updates.
Where did you get the material for your leafs? I'm not sure what to use on my 850 build. I used bundle strapping on my Euc but it is so thin that it would take about 30 lefs to get the thickness right. Yours look bang on for the real deal! Reg |

RCP57, the rear leaves are from banding material. Yes, individual leafs are not scale thickness - I made the total stack height correct by using a thicker spacer between mains and helpers. The fronts are a combination of banding material (the two longest leaves) and pieces from Tamiya truck springs that I separated and cut to length. Some leaves were straightened out - unrolled the eyes - to get the needed length. I'll have to wait on the final configuration, though. If the springs are too light when loaded, I'll be adding coils inside the shocks to assist. Worst case, I'll add additional leaves to up the spring rate.

I don't know if this is use full, but this is where I get the spring material for model locomotive leaf springs. Comes in 24" in lengths and is already annealed. Just have form you radius and temper it. Available from .006 to .125 thickness by various widths.

Interesting guys. I may have a couple of dead lawn mowers somewhere(hoarder) so I'll take a look at that option before I buy anything.

Hi Ken,
Looks great so far. How much will it weigh when it is completed? Do these axles have limits? Colin |

I finally have some updates. Finished the front axle assembly and got it installed. I did a much better job on the upper and lower housing plates compared to the rear ones. Experience does help! Anyway, now I feel I'll have to redo the rear ones, since they are move visible.

More updates. I had a General Discussion item asking about Steering Servo Interference from the Drive Motor. With help from our great forum tech gurus, I installed a couple of Ferrite Core Chokes on the servo lead and it solved the problem. The truck easily carries 35 pounds (barbell weights) and performs well. Yes, I know I owe everyone a video - hopefully soon. I have never posted a video before, so I'll have to learn how to do that. Anyway, here are the update pics.
