Wow that is a nice piece of data Joe, very good reach. Do I see one in your future?

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
So he is using the same setup as the Vario then except with brushless motors instead? Gonna be smooth like butter.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
The price for the 490 will be around 4600 Euros, quite reasonable i think, im sure its a work horse in the smaller scale as well knowing Franks work!

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
Does that include the VAT or has it been substracted?
The 850 3yrs ago was about 250 euro less (before shipping)... I'm assuming the price above is not RTR, but rather it has to been assembled yet?

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
Any idea of the power the hydraulic system will produce compared to the vario?

Are the boom and stick really made out of plastic?

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
Yes the both the booms, cabs body oil tank are made of fibre glass .The quick coupler is 3d printed. some parts like internals etc are 3d printed

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
You sure? The 850 arms are resin shells but have an internal steel skeleton. I would assume he used the same process on this model.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
I'm not sure if the boom/stick on this 490 is made the same way as the Vario excavator with any steel skeleton, I put the arms to a magnet & didn't feel any draw... plus the arms feel extremely light weight.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
Sure look's like plastic to me. It would be nice to see it cast in aluminum, via the lost wax casting process.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
I was a little surprised to see the 3D printed parts for coupler... I had to do some hand filing to get the bucket to fit in place, aluminum files & drills easier than this stuff! I guess we'll see how well it wears over the long term.
Wedico does cast aluminum buckets & various other parts. It sure aint strong, nor does it wear well.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
I would've thought a lost wax brass casting to be more optimal then aluminum or printed plastic . I'll be watching to see how yours holds up , Joe . Then again , for my intent , I guess it'll be just fine .

Do you watch Daily Planet much? There's all kinds of things being 3D printed nowadays... did you see the car that was featured recently?

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
People seem to have this misconception of 3d printed "plastic" as being a weak or inferior material.... when there are people out there making items that are extremely durable and long lasting.... I myself have proven time and time again that you can take a design and make it extremely durable. Granted, yes a piece of plastic will never be as strong as a piece of metal (steel) in this case, but for I would say 90% of what we do, it is possible to make something strong enough to take the abuse of what we require for these machines..... I obviously wouldnt make a bucket out of plastic over metal, but I would consider an arm (well printed with cross hatched fill) or even the quick release coupler, etc... I think you will be just fine...

Re: Fumotec Komatsu PC490-10
Agreed Exclusive RC
They are releasing new materials every week seems like. Even soon to be released 3D FDM carbon/glass fiber printers that print plastic then inlay the fiber into it, all aided by the software and controllable to the point of specific layers/areas receiving inlay. What you see for the most part today is just the tip of a new 3D revolution that's going to happen over the next few years. So much cool stuff ahead.... |
