Here's a small update. It doesn't look like much has happened but I have spent hours working on the shutters.
http://youtu.be/H2lLCjSkbPE I wanted to see what the hood would look like polished so I shined up half of it and the rad. It came up pretty quickly with course rouge and I'm sure it would look kinda neat with some effort but I won't be polishing more... I don't think.lol I don't know if there are too many polished aluminum RC trucks out there? Probably for good reason. ![]() ![]() |

Buy me a plane ticket out there, I'll bring all my high tech polishing equipment , set me up in a tent in the compound and I'll make that body look like chrome.....should take 2-3 weeks to finish but it'll be worth it buddy. I promise ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice, you got the shutters hooked into the battery temp or motor temp or both?

Yeah that's right!lol In all seriousness though I was thinking of setting them up so that they open under full throttle but I'm not sure. We have a show coming up in about three weeks so I need to pick a direction and get going on this truck. I would like to have it nearly completed by then but not painted. Look for some updates this week!

Thanks guys. I guess I have thrown the scale look completely out the window now. I have never really built a "custom" truck before as everything else has been modeled after a particular machine. This is turning in a different direction than I had originally intended as it was going to be a stock looking old truck. Not complaining though as I think it looks decent and will be fairly unique when finished. I made air tanks, battery box, steps and started on the air cleaner today. Fuel tanks will be next I guess when time permits.
Let me know what you all think... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

i personaly think this is exactly how they should have built the old school trucks, looks awesom and some mad metal work skills.
but it definatly needs the old school paint job. cheers andy |

Thanks Andy. I had originally planned to paint it but now I am thinking it will be left raw to show off the metal body. I plan to polish all of the smaller parts but I haven't decided what finish to give the body. I am thinking polished is too much maintenance so maybe brushed finish? We'll see. I like the contrast of the copper and aluminum together. I just need to figure out what metal to use and where.lol

I agree 100% Reg. The copper and aluminum work really well together and looks wicked! But what are you gonna do about the scars in the cab roof?

Oh, and are you suggesting that I put a driven front axle in this? The thought had crossed my mind but I don't want to spend the money for an axle.lol |

Always a big fan of your ally work Reg! I think you've got a great eye for the detail and then using wafer thin ally (and copper!) to catch the look with such a good fettle and finish is very skillful..... top work in my book (again)

The scary part is I have enough scraps to make a drive axle for the front! It would be a Frankenstein type thing of course but it could be done. Much easier to press the buy button though as I don't see myself wanting to invest the effort. What is the best option for a front axle? I wouldn't mind having AWD but I think it will be an add-on later as money in the bank is more important than money blown on mini KW's at the moment.lol I could, and have been thinking about making my own reduction for this. Maybe when I do a shaft sticks out forward as well as to the rear just in case?
![]() I don't know what I was hiding either Mario ![]() Maybe I need to go this direction? ![]() |

It won't pull it, that's a highway hauler & the last I saw, you don't have any paved roads.
![]() ![]() Bobtails get around so much easier, quicker turnarounds.

Thanks blitzk. I do like the looks of this combo but Joe is 100% correct. It just wouldn't work in my play area. The roads are all gravel and fairly steep too! It would be stuck everywhere, not to mention that the roads aren't very smooth or flat so it would probably fall over while dumping. Even at the shows we attend we always end up making an offroad environment so it wouldn't work there either.
