Thanks Tracy

The move will be fine - I hope - the worst is over, the packing and sorting what to take and what to give away ... Once reasonably settled in, the build will continue :-) ... being closer to ScaleART will be nice too. Planning to go pay a visit to them too.

From average 90% humidity and 32°C to low humidity and (if we ar lucky) ±5°C average in Januari - supposed to be a mild winter in Belgium ... First thing on the agenda is buying some warm clothing!

Already informed the family to crank up the heat in the house we rented before we arrive.

Actually will be glad to be able to go outside without getting drenched in sweat just checking the mailbox 15 meters from the door.

Reason we are moving in Januari is to avoid the dry season ... Last year it didn't rain for 3 months, was beastly hot and on top of that due to water shortage we didn't get water for 2 weeks. Should have figured that ... living high up on a ridge - last house on the water main - not enough water pressure to make it up the hill since the houses/hotels below us are using it for their garden ...

Hi Christian,

The whole move went reasonably well. First months been very busy with painting this house, finding/buying furniture, sorting out the garden so the cats could go outside and not to forget the hassle getting sorting out all the legal paperwork involved with healthcare, insurance, registration etc.

Only got around to unboxing the trucks a couple of months ago. But have lost my momentum for the moment to continue working on them. The 6x6 survived the trip very well, the 8x8 suffered some minor mishap and will need a new front fender under the cabin. I also succeeded in burning the gear shift servo due to accidentally erasing both Commander and CM-5000 unit in the truck. (don't ask)

Also in my stupidity I left behind more tools than I thought. Still replacing that stuff.

So eventually this thread will be continued. :-)

Hi Stephan, glad to hear the family made the move safely. The trucks can always be repaired. Are the cats settling in? Hope to see you back it soon.

Hi Stephan,

sounds good. Nice that you arrived well in Europe. Welcome!

You will surely find motivation again soon and finish your models. And now you have a big advantage: ScaleART is much closer and you can easily get spare parts. ;-)

All the best! - I am looking forward to the continuation of your report.

Hi Truckmaker, the cats were pleased as can be when the finally made it here, the poor critters had a rough time of it. Took them a while to get used to the colder weather though, but by now they have settled in.

For the rest, I got the photo bucket account sorted out and decided to go for their $99.99/year thing, it beats redoing all the work and after a few problems it seems all the pictures are back available again. I think I better start reading my own thread to figure out what I've done to this truck so far. Didn't label stuff when I packed and will take me a while to sort it all out again.

The real pain is that the next step is the electronics, not really my cup of tea.

Not having to wait 3-4 weeks for parts will indeed be nice (and dangerous for my bank account)

So slowly getting back up and running on the truck, and just spend about one hour scratching my head and trying to remember where I had put all the bits and pieces. Not the best packing / unpacking if I say so myself. But then been over a year since all the parts got put back in the box.

So here some pictures of where we are at at the moment and now I have to retrace my steps to see how it all goes back together.

Figured I would put the front fender back on, but mind blanked out ...

and then all those wires I didn't label (stupid me)

at least I had the foresight to keep little parts together

And after not have looked at the "how to" instructions it all looks rather confusing

I just have to get my head back into it ...

At least I remembered how to post pictures

Hi Christian, might be like swimming, but getting back into this after 1.5 years is a bit daunting to say the least. Also getting to the point where the electronics come into play ... not my favourite part.

Wel Thomas this project has been sitting around and every time I pass the boxes I get a twinge of guilt and to think I still have that whole trailer to build. At this rate this will be a 5-year plan.

@Panther F, I like seeing pictures, so I presume other people like it too ... wouldn't call it a museum piece though, just a very well thought out kit.

@frizzen, as mentioned above, might take a while before this is finished ...

=====================================

Well guys, seems like every time I want to continue this something needs to be done first.

Today I succeeded in putting the bumper back on the truck.

First the bash plate. (Found the red nuts later and replaced the black ones)

Followed by the locking mechanism for the cabin

Next the hardware to attach the bumper to the frame. (the springs are for the locking mechanism of the cab)

The bumper slides on the screws. Need to squeeze the support a bit, it's a tight fit

Put the nuts on the mounting points and attached the connecting bar from the heavy coupling. Did not tighten the nuts yet because I will have to fiddle around with the placement of the bumper so it lines up with the cab. (One of the reasons the locking springs have not been installed yet)

That one pointed out by the arrow is a real "pleasure" to fit the nut on.

Picture of left and right side with cab installed. You can see what I mean with having to fiddle with the placement of the bumper.

That's it for now. Will take me a bit getting the bumper lined up properly.

Then I have to decide what to do next and see if I can locate all the parts needed.

Need to find a good hobby shop in the area, have to buy some stuff for soldering and need to find a dealer for Proxxon stuff.

I love assembling, but the ScaleArt models are really really complex. I’m now glad I ordered mine assembled.
