I know this is not a tandem axle but I was wondering if anyone may have an answer to my question.?

A lot of the buses I see with tandems run a standard dual tire for front axle and only a single skinny tire on the rear axle it's not a super single or even a lift axle so I don't understand why?? Just curious if anyone knows why.

Anyway awesome build and the craftsmanship is second to none keep the updates coming and the ideas flowing.

Tag axles mounted ahead of the drive axle on the P8M-4905A coaches. This tag axle was apparently an option that could come with the coach when ordered by the customer. Notice the smaller wheel and rim size, basically what it does is it helps remove some load off the drive axel and I guess that would make the bus engine have less stress and wear.

It is called a tag axle. Usually a trailing (behind) set up. There are several advantages to it. Larger load capacity, better rear departure angle, more braking, reduced tire wear, etc.

Thanks for the answers on the axles guys.

Silvio the axle is identical to what you showed only trailing behind the other axle not in front, and being on that position it had just a regular wheel well opening no panels or anything in front

soranowraith thanks for your help too I figured it had something to do with capacity just didn't understand why only a smaller single tire but I guess thats all you would really need.

Well that is weird. Only earlier today I was wondering if anyone had ever built a public service or school bus etc, based on the Tamiya form/componants and scale. I was even going to post in the general section asking about it - and then I here I stumble across this. Dude, you're a genius. Man, that's really weird. I have never seen a bus with a lift axle, hidden behind the luggage storage area, but then I have never been around buses either.
