The truck looks great and seams to get around real good but your gonna be there a while trying to move that big pile of dirt with that little truck.

Great video of the Steam shovel.
Hope you can make the truck show in Port, it's early in September I think the 4th.

So I had a little incident the last time out with the Euc and Volvo. I swapped out the 540 motor for a slower more powerful 550 in the Euc which I was very happy with. The speed was more realistic and the increased torque was great. The problem is that I have the mentality that if it "can do it" then it must be OK. Because the truck has more power and my Volvo is working good I started loading heavier and heavier loads so something had to give. The original diff that I built was a solid axle with aluminum Diawa spin casting reel gears so it bit the dust.

So.... I figured this was a good excuse to use my mill for the first time... As it turns out though most of the parts have been made on the lathe so far.I do have a lot of parts to make yet though so I'm sure I will use it on the pinion carrier and such..

Thanks for looking!

Nice looking axle-do you have a plan for gears that will fit in there?

Thanks guys!

I have a couple of HPI diff set-ups that I bought for something else so I stole one of those. I made the axles today and started on the pinion carrier. I have to make new springs and a yoke as well so I will be at this for a bit before I can get the truck going again. The weather is supposed to be nice again by the weekend though so I have to hurry up!

Slowly plugging away at this. I still have to make a yoke, U bolts and maybe new leafs. Once I get the other pieces made and bolted together it will get a final coat of paint and installed.

Thanks for looking.

I finally have all the pieces ruffed in and back together. Just a couple little things and some paint and it should be up and running again... I hope!

PS: The pictures are poor...

I always like to see what you have tacked together with that TIG welder. This rear has turned out very nice. You forgot to show us the internals. I want to see how you fitted the HPI gears in there.

I forgot to take pictures of the inside but, the center section is just held in place by the axles. Each axle has a spacer with a set screw and shim washers. This keeps the axles from moving in or out and also sets the backlash. The pinion is supported by 2 bearings and didn't require any shims. The truck deffinately turns better with an open diff but I think it will get stuck a lot easier now much like the real truck does! I drove it around with a cinder block in the back and it seemed to work fine so hopefully this holds up.

Thanks for the comments!
