Edit: Just saw that you already run a receiver pack. Unless this is very weak, my following text won't apply to you.
If you are relying on the ESC's BEC and your servos draw a lot of current, the BEC might break down, which shuts off the receiver and hence the servos' current draw. Then, the system comes back to life, with the control stick at whatever position it was and the self-learning ESC takes this as the new neutral. So maybe, all you need is a stronger external BEC? I use 5 cells of my 12V pack (it's actually a double 6V pack) to power my receiver. Not ideal, but enough grunt. Cheers Jens |

Where did you get the tires from? Are they about 30.5-32?

use a 5v voltage regulator and eliminate the need for receiver packs. U can buy them for under $2 at radio shack.

I am not familiar with RadioShack's products, but if you mean the simple 3-pin electronic part that regulates the input voltage down to 5V, this is not the ideal solution:
They typically do not cope with the high currents modern servos need and they are very inefficient, as they waste the extra power as heat. A proper BEC would be better - or a strong battery, if the space is sufficient. If you know of a 2USD part that does not suffer from the disadvantages I mentioned, could you please provide a link, I'd be seriously and honestly interested. |

I have run it for 10- 20 mins with the steering servo unhooked without any problems. So my problem does lies with the introduction of the servo. Any suggestions?

Could be the servo, ive have 2 that make my DX7 go nuts but also could be the high current load. Id try another servo (unmounted) to see I had a look but couldnt see how easy it was to access and swap that said its a fair bulk to shift mechanically.
Im guessing $2 part mentioned is the 2905 IC these are limited to ~500mA - not enough for your requirements. |

I guess I have killed my steering servo (Hitec- HSR-5990TG) at Indy. I just took it apart tonight, makes noise but no movement. The gears all look good inside, I'm not sure is wrong.
Heavy Duty or RC farmer- if you wouldn't mind can you post the video you guys got of it in action while @ Indy here for me. I don't have much or very good video of my own. Ben

Good videos snowchaser! as to your low voltage problem it maybe like jensr said and you need a seperate regulator to run it or if the servo was already on its way out it will sometimes draw masses of current causing the same low voltage effect, id send that back to hitec and see what they say $120 hitec servo shouldnt go bad like that.

I believe I will send the servo back and see what they say.
I installed some "glass" finally, and updated a pic or two. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Video: ![]() Ben

Thanks. I've had some very frustrating moments with it, but I believe I have all the kinks ironed out now.

Do you guys find you enjoy building stuff then realize the fun is building and just assume sell what you've built?
