Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
Just like the title, I'm wondering if anyone has ever offered all aluminum Tamiya semi-truck drive axle cases that are a direct fit? I know there are Rc Channel's axles, and some TLT-1 axles cases out there, but I definitely would want one with the pass through shafts. I don't think I've ever seen any. Would it be possible to take two TLT-1 alloy axles and make a pass through shaft case, by using the pinion sides of both the cases, bolted back to back?
I know RC4WD has one alloy axle, but it's only the rear, single shafted design.

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
Thanks Cossest. I never realized there were that many aluminum goodies for the Tamiya rigs. I like those axles, but they are sold out, I guess! I couldn't find any aluminum axles from RC Damper. Other then the front one anyway.
Scott, I've seen the RC4WD rear axle, but they don't have a pass through shaft version!

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
Doing a search, I found that same listing for both axles. It's the mid AND rear. I'm not sure if I'll be buying or not, just yet. The plastic axles seem pretty strong, but they can flex. Not really an issue on a semi truck, but I have some concerns on a tractor I am building, which is using these axles. It's going to be heavy!

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
Tamiya has never made any I have a good friend that works at Tamiya USA in CA named Dave and he said that it was never offered.
Now I have seen on scale were a guy took 2 alum half's and made a pass threw case from alum tlt cases and just cut the ears of and then filed them and after paint you could not tell they were ever there..

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
Interesting idea, Paul, but that sounds like to much of a hack job, at least for my tastes.
So the question is, how much weight can a Tamiya semi axle handle? How much torque can the differential gears take? Are there any hardened gear set upgrades available? I don't know what my tractor will weigh, when it's complete, but I want it as heavy as possible. 20 to 30 pounds? Will the axles survive? I know some of you guys haul heavy loads on trucks, but that's not running larger ag tires, with better traction.

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
if you want to know about hardened gears for pulling you should find RCROADTRAIN on youtube and ask him. he says after each video his front diff out of the tri drive is worn right out!

Now one of my 2.2 rock crawlers weights 19 pounds and has a holmes puller motor in it witch has crazy power and tork is unreal no one has power like this in a semi. I run 11.1 lipo and mash on the throttle and I go threw one set of gears a season. So what I am saying the TLT gears are semi gears the pinon always go first.. Now you can get harden pinons and center sections from RC4WD and they help a ton if you run them gears in a semi you will never have a issue and for that fact you will never have a issue with the stock ones. Greg had dirt pushers D9 at 110 pounds one his lowboy and it did not hurt a thing..

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
Yeah, I know Paul, I'm a perfectionist! It gets the better of me all the time. Thanks for the info on the axles. I always thought they were pretty durable. After all, Joe has run them for years, hauling dirt out of his basement, with no real failures. I think he might have worn out some gears, but they never failed to the point of breaking. This is all good info. Sounds like I shouldn't have to worry to much. I just know there will be a ton of torque on the axles and diffs, in my tractor, and I'm making it as heavy as I can. Guess if there is a problem, I'll find out! Good to know there are some hardened gears out there too.

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
Nathen,I myself have only blown one pinion gear apart,& that was cause of my own stupidity. Pulling a loaded semi dump w/a loaded 6x6 dump, pulled the shaft right out of the gear. Now your talkin moving a LOT of weight through one little shaft. I highly doubt you'll be putting your tractor under these kinda loads.Plus the tractor will never get the traction of a loaded dump truck w/locked diffs & fulda tires on it.
The F-350 diffs work just fine, a little cutting & they look just ducky. With a little time involved, you would never know that they were a steer axle to start with. Just used one in my tractor/loader in the rear,& that baby is heavy. She'll spin the tires in dirt w/no problem! F-350 axles are everywhere & cheap, you can go through a boat load of 350 axles, before you hit the price of a couple aluminum axles. Just my .02 on this topic. FGD

Re: Does anybody make aluminum Tamiya rig axle cases?
I owned the company when we developed these. I've only seen 2 guys blow them up on 4S with a Holmes Puller. Plan on building a heavy hauler and will be using these.
