I was thinking about your swivel issue on the grapple. I had the same problem on may CAT 345 log loader. What I ended up doing is just building a grapple that opens as wide as possible and is free to swivel on its own. When there is no logs in the grapple I have mine set up so that it goes straight again, there are times when you have to hook one side of the grapple on a log and then move ahead a little to swing the grapple to get it over the log but not often.

Solder one side, now gotta do another..

Greg- I figured that would probably be the route I would end up taking (though it bums me out)...so free spinning grapple it'll probably be.

Mog- I am sure you are doing a fine job. I haven't seen any posts from you..am I missing them....where's the pics of what your buildin'??

What are you using for the drivetrain, looks like you might have GRU/motors at each wheel?

Nice brass work!

Nice soldering job. Are you using a resistance unit of just a small torch?

Thor- they are 20rpm gear motors.

9W-Monighan- I am using a "regular size" torch (same one I use if I am doing plumbing) for the work. I'd love to get a resistance soldering unit though...just don't want to spend the money.

Thanks to you both on the soldering, only other brass I have done is what is on this model. Does require two rare commodities though...time and patients! I don't have much of each in my opinion.

Snochaser-very nice build you have going! Don't know what scale you are building but the model looks kinda big. Could you use a modified (full rotation)micro servo as a rotator and build a round case around it to hide it. Don't know how much torque you need but just a thought.

Modelman- It's 1:14 scale, if I did it correctly. I still will have a problem with lines twisting if it rotates. That's the booger. The other motor I have would be good but.....

What about mounting it rigid and just let the servo arm rotate? Have the grapple mounted to the servo arm.

Thanks guys!

Modelman- I believe I know what you are saying, not sure I could fit the servo though. I may look into it.

Mog- That thing looks like a beast, quick and torquey.

I'm hoping to get a lot of work pickin' up sticks in peoples yards. LOL

I'll have to move it in with my new Pete that should be here in a week or two from SemiJoe. Oh....guess I'll have to build a trailer first.

I am gettin' antsy. I want to try it out. I think I will be waiting for quite some time more (and quite understandably so) for the hydraulic pump though.

Thanks for the compliments.
