Re: RCP57's first King...
For the amount of machining that was necessary, you are about right on the time. If you were power tapping, you might be a little slow. Machining looks great. And you even deburred the parts!! If you want to really slow down, make all of those holes 00-90 thread size without breaking any taps I had better find some real wood to knock on after that comment I have yet to break a 00-90 tap Must be really living right. Wont talk about M3X .5 though

Re: RCP57's first King...
Thanks guys. I think the amount of time it took was fine, it just seems like forever. All the holes were started with a center drill, then drilled to size, then tapped. I don't tap them in my mill because I don't have a tapping head yet. The mill has a 'tapping feature' but I have used it with mixed success. I use a cordless drill and a lot of patients. I always take the time to de-bur my parts... I don't want myself or anyone else cutting themselves on a sharp edge.
I don't have any 00-90 taps and I can't imagine how careful you would have to be with them. My smallest is 0-80 and I have broken a couple... |

Re: RCP57's first King...
Thanks, I think so too!
All I have been doing lately is working on boxes so I decided to take a break and get some work done on my KH. I didn't get a lot done but I made up an aluminum panel to fill in the back of the cab. I plan on scratch building an aluminum cab soon but don't have the time right now so this will do. When I bought the truck it came with two trannies....yuck, sorry I mean transmissions. One had an 85t motor with 3rd gear removed and the shaft modified to drive a PTO, and the other was stock with a 55t motor. Both had 11 tooth pinions installed so I swapped the 85t on to the stock trans and put it back in the truck. I am hoping to get some stuff in the mail this week that will get the truck up and running so I am excited! I kind of started this hobby backwards with scratch building stuff first and then buying a kit years later. Thanks for looking! |

Re: RCP57's first King...
Great job Reg! I've been watching quietly, no comments til now....!...that 1/32" between the bumper and hoist base is just unacceptable, such a hack! Baahahaha. Just kidding, many people will love to have a bed and fine working mechanism. The magnets are a great idea, the one I did works great, attracts all the metal too , I wish I had a gold magnet though.

Those boxes look great. Where did you get the material for the sides?

Re: RCP57's first King...
Hi Reg I don't plan on using it but what about the people that use the rubber for dirt will the gate release then? I don't imagine there is much weight with that stuff and the gate won't release. Ed

Re: RCP57's first King...
Hi Reg , let me know if you find a way to slow your truck to a realistic speed. After i put the new motor in mine it still accelerates like a ferrari. Id like to get rid of 2nd and 3rd gear altogether. I cant wait to see your choice of colour. Mike

Re: RCP57's first King...
In less than 12hrs it's painted & put together... com'on
Bright colors always look best with aluminum, a great lil worker you have there Reg. Just one thing left to do is shorten your stacks to just above the box.

Re: RCP57's first King...
Awesome colour choice Reg. Back in high school a friend had a brutal 64 chev p/u in that same colour. Once you add the roof guard to the box i think you'll find those stacks to be the right height. Will you be adding a peice of black paper behind the grill so you dont see inside the hood ?
