Re: Fumotec Komatsu 490 LC build
Looks as well engineered machines. Solid, steel. Look at the drivetrain gears. Not overly detailed, but just detailed enough and ideal for the DIY person who are given the opportunity of putting together a top of the line model, to a relatively decent cost.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu 490 LC build
They are a bit larger than the diameter of a soda can.
Or more accurate (you are lucky I had to take this one off to clean out the dirt that got trapped where it slides in the undercarriage)

Re: Fumotec Komatsu 490 LC build
The other measurements ... (Top ones are same size at bottom)
About 1 cm for the smallest diameter and about 1.5 for the larger one.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu 490 LC build
And here i thought you had taken it apart just for me! Thanks for that though! It helps a lot. my smaller idlers are 12.70 mm and my front idler is 34.50mm. my fronr idler will be bigger for sure but my smaller ones will be larger than yours all because i think so far i am going to use roller chain and tig small nuts to the outside to mount the tracks to. but i will run aluminum bar threw a table saw ti get the track cleats much like yours.

Thanks for you time putting this great build thread up. It's good to see exactly how this is coming together along with the detailed measurements.

Good luck with your build! Just make sure your front idler is same diameter as your drive wheel. No sweat ... just wished I had taken more pictures, especially of the electronics in the undercarriage. Measurements can be made, but it have to be accessible items. Maybe I will make some more pics/measurements when I have to sort out the bit of slop that is developing in the slewing mechanism. The grubscrews on the inaccessible bottom gear are loosening up. Going to be a big job that. My own fault that. The gears were all coated in a film of oil, should have degreased them better than I did. Now the Loctite not holding at 100%.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu 490 LC build
Just came across this thread as well as you man build. This is one sweet excavator! Have you played with this much? I'm seriously considering an excavator as my next big rc purchase. Couple questions, can you buy these complete? Electronics and radio included? And if you dont mind me asking, whats the price tag on it? I was considering the rc4wd offering. It seems pretty inexpensive, but Ive heard alot of bad things about the quality of it. Plus it doesnt look all that realistic imo. Appreciate the info. Thanks.

Re: Fumotec Komatsu 490 LC build
The Fumotec and rc4wd machines are in 2 different leagues, so not quite fair mention them in the same sentence. The fumotec will run for years without bigger hassle, while the rc4wd often will stay several more hours in the 'repair shop' than running. (some few owners have had luck naturally)
The fumotec is delivered as a set, normally not RTR. |

Re: Fumotec Komatsu 490 LC build
Hi Prop, Azonic and Rimrock have already answered your questions
What can I add but tell you that Frank is a great guy and his customer service is excellent. I haven't used mine that much as other people have, but so far smooth sailing, no leaks or electronic problems. If I would build it again I would be a tad more careful in cutting out the windows of the cab and try to get some decent paint instead of the stuff they sell here. He now also has the 490-11 which is the same machine but has a different higher hood on it. For what he charges, it is most definitely value for the money! I sourced the recommended ECS and Servos myself but in afterthought it would have been cheaper/easier to have Frank take care of that. I use my ScaleART radio with it. Hope this helps you make up your mind.
