Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Whatever it is it'll have to wait, Number 1 is in dire need of attention!
Pump started getting noisy last wkend, the bearing in this support is toast! The whole top end here needs a bath! Tear it all down, clean it, shorten wires and mount electronics permanent, I got it working the way I want it to. Got to fit everything better so I can get the hood to sit flush. Got a mountain of dirt to clear away! I was hoping to get all the way across with this 6 inch cut before leaving the wall, but the right track went dead, a set screw somewhere in the powertrain lost its grip! I did make a movie crippling it down with one functional track, but I didn't position the lighting correctly & the dark shadows make some it hard to see. It took nearly an hour to shape shift dirt to do it.

Bummer on the breakdown, hope you get it back up and digging soon!
I've moved full size hoes with a dead track, not fun at all. Cheer's, Neil. |

I'm guessing an articulated dump truck as well. Those made by Fumotec are really nice.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Took about an hour to strip it down.. my hands are black!
I sent Frank a mail for his thoughts.. (funny guy ) "Congratulations, i´m 100% shure that your model is the first that move 4 cubic of such a hard clay, normaly people just “play” with ther models. And congratulations as whell, youre the first that gets the pump unit fall in pieces, your my product tester! No, just joking a bit, it´s really interesting for me, what can happens if you really use the machine." The bit of good luck with the 1 box arriving Friday is that it has another pump assembly in it, I can rob the bearings from it and get my hoe back together in a couple hrs. Here's a part 1 of descending off the wall last night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7b4z106dC8

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hi, I have a quick question. I have the same Ex. and I see that your swing motor set-up is different them mine. I have a geared motor with a wormdrive on it to run the swing gear. Yours has a geared motor directly running the swing gear. Is this the way your Ex came or is this something you changed yourself? I ask because with the worm set-up I have, when the hoe is off level at all, the swing is not smooth. It just is not that good of a set-up. I though about running a set-up like you have. Thanks, Chad

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Hey Joe, is there room to "double up" the outboard support bearing on the pump??? Just curious as usual.
Chad, Joe did change the swing motor, I think it's mentioned, earlier in this thread. Not sure which page? Cheer's, Neil. |

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Wow, you really destroyed that bearing! I kind of wonder what caused the failure. Dirt, to much tension on the belt, or maybe just plain wore it out? If dirt was the case, maybe a rubber sealed bearing would be better? I'd hate to say run a bushing instead, but I don't think you'd wear one of those out so quick.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
cbazq271, I had a terrible time with my swing drive.. there's a proper way to set up a worm drive system & I didn't know it at the time.. I tried afterward, but I think I ruined my gears already & couldn't get it to work anyway.
Frank had this prototype vertical direct mount that he sent me to try & that solved all my violent pulsating problems. PFB complained of the same problem and his hoe was built by Vario.. With my latest goodies from Fumotec I got three of these vertical swing drives for my fellow hobbyists in north america who have one of these Vario 850's.. it requires some machining on your part, the output shaft of the vertical motor is smaller diameter than the pinion gear and too short as well. You will have to make a steel bushing/longer shaft to connect pinion directly on motor. PFB is welcome to one, you can have one cbazq and one left yet. They cost me 45 euro, you can PP me $60usd + shipping, PM me your address. I'll get it out to you next week sometime. I think my problem with that bearing on the pump Neil & Nathan is perhaps the bearing slipped out of place a wee bit & was rubbing on the belt pulley.. friction = heat -> cooked the bearing. I lock-tite the new bearing in place and shimmed the support plate out a bit too. 850 is back together and working fine.

Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
Joe that swing seems to work a lot better. I watch your video and the way you were setting my machine would not work. It did it at the show in York Pa. I have not done anything with it sense then but I am going to change the lines over the stick and put new shafts in the drive units with screw in pins were the set screws are then they can't turn unless they brake the pins. Re: Hauling Dirt out of my basement (present day)
You don't need new shafts Ed, just machine flat spots where your set screws grip. Drilling a hole for a set screw pin might weaken the shafts to twist off/break at the holes.
Here's pic showing the hole I had to cut in the 850 body b/c the vertical mount motor being too tall. I'll get you some more pics tomorrow or Sunday for you to tilt your head & wonder Elliot.

Did Nathan bring out his 850 for you to run too Steve? Or is the JD controls beyond your realm of thinking?
This is what I built today Elliot from pre cut pieces Frank sent me..
