I wish I had your ambition, sucks getting old(er) & slower. Somehow the whole day went by and all I got accomplished was a hyd tank from brass.

I was working in the shop most of the day but when I got frustrated with something, I decided to take a break and bust out the speed loader. She's a tire fryer for sure but it actually works pretty good. The ground I'm digging in the video is really heavy from all the rain we have been having and yet it still gets a half bucket or so in one scoop. Hopefully adding rubber tires will help with traction a little but not add too much. I would rather it spin than break! http://youtu.be/3NASWsVZDDs |

Re: Liebherr 574
looks exactly like mine did when i first completed the conversion... I have no doubt in my mind once you add weight and rubber to it, she will work flawlessly..... mine weighs a little over 10 pounds now and traction is def not an issue.... keep the pics and mods coming bud..

Re: Liebherr 574
Unbelievable job Reg!!! The bucket looks great as does the whole loader. I was just wondering if you could tell me what kind ESC's you used (Amps?) and what kind drive motors were used.

Re: Liebherr 574
These are the ESC's that I used. Very cheap and do the job just fine. There may be better deals out there but I was happy enough with them. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...arehouse_.html
I used 25mm gear motors. I have 133rpm motors installed it now but only because I had them for something else. Of course they were stolen from project A to complete project B. I will put lower geared motors in this soon but I won't go with really low geared ones because they don't stand up even though the speed would be better. These motors are definitely too fast but will stall under load. The lower geared units often strip gears before they will stall which is no fun. Hope that helps. |

Re: Liebherr 574
Yes that certainly helps. Thank you very much, Reg. I'm kind of a pack rat myself so I'm hoping to get the majority of components off my junk pile but I will need to buy a few things. P.S. Still saving for one of those awesome dumps you build. Thanks again for all your help.

Re: Liebherr 574
I bought the motors from Robot Shop some time ago but I get them from eBay now because they offer more choices in ratios. I think Hobby King had some in their robotics section but they where fairly high speed from what I remember.

Re: Liebherr 574
Had the speed loader out for a rip this afternoon... This thing is crazy fast but it actually makes it more fun I think.

Re: Liebherr 574
This website has many geared motors with different voltage solutions and revolution per minutes and it offers free shipping to US. I've bought from them on a couple of occasions and it takes about 3 weeks or less for stuff (if in stock) to get to an US address.

Re: Liebherr 574
I've been waiting on some cheap 1.9" crawler tires since just after Xmas. Yesterday after nearly 5 weeks they showed up so today I took a "me day" in the shop and fit them to the loader. So far I am fairly happy with them considering they were $16CAD for all four delivered to my door. The rims started out as 2 1/4" round stock. All together they add almost 2lbs to the weight of the machine. For now I have swapped out the original foams for some out of 2.2" tires. They are way oversize so even though they are soft it still firms up the tires a fair bit. Eventually I will make new foams if need be. The loader runs much nicer on the shop floor and it removes a little more of the "plastic feel" from the machine. I haven't done an outdoor test yet but I'm sure they will be fine....
Almost time for some paint! http://youtu.be/5fhjLTitjOs |
