Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
Tekin 45T Motor, Integy 3 Speed and PMD 4:1 Reduction. The transmission is really nothing that impressive, all aluminum but it fits like the factory one, I like that.

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
My eyes are so bad at age 45, after posting these transmission photos I realized the transmission case was not bolted together tightly and had to go fix that.

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
My new Shapeways Peterbilt cab came today, thanks to Mrs. Claus, that was one of my Christmas gifts. The reason I bought a new cab was the other printed cab I have has cab skirts on the bottom but my sleeper does not so some body work was going to have to be done. The second reason is the new cab fits the sleeper flange much better, in fact bolts together. I do not care for the frosted windshield but we'll see what I can do with that.
I also have Rigid RC mirrors and clearance lights to add, the new cab has no mounting holes for either of those things. I also have a brand new grille in the package since this one broke but until the truck is built I will be using the broken one. My truck is actually starting to take on a very correct heavy spec Peterbilt look, exactly what I was going after. I never wanted an exact replica of this truck but wanted to capture the heavy sleeper truck with sleeper, I think I'm going in the right direction My truck will be red, maybe black front fenders. |

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
I turned the body mounting plates upside down, lowered the whole body quite a little bit, I'm liking it much better.

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
Claus,
Is that what he calls the Hi-Rise Cab? Did it bolt directly to the Tamiya cab mount? What are you planning for the side windows? Thanks, Chris |

No, it is not the Hi-Rise cab. Here is a link to the one I bought; https://www.shapeways.com/product/N2...ionId=60673699 Yes it uses the Tamiya floorboard and metal plates to mount to. It will not accept Tamiya windows so I have not figured out what to do there yet. I do not like the frosted windshield I bought from Goose, I would much rather have clear windows than ones that are painted black. My older version of printed cab uses the Tamiya floorboards, mounts, windows, mirrors, the whole 9 yards. So some days I still consider going back to that cab. |

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
OK thanks. I think you can polish the windows, maybe with some fine grit sandpaper. If I use those I will probably polish the windows then use Tamiya Clear Smoke and paint the inside so it looks slightly tinted.
You might ask Russ about it, he may be able to give you some advice. Thanks, Chris |

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
Thanks for the advice. It seems like the Hi Rise cab roofline would sit higher than the flat top sleeper, glad I didn't go that route.

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
I'm hoping for this truck to have some kind of a lowboy or drop deck someday, really like to get an RC4WD lowboy for it. Anyways I love my rear suspension kit but the truck always seemed a little bit soft to me in the back, I have seen on this forum where ground clearance on that lowboy is a real issue as well as the weight of that lowboy compressing all of the trucks springs. This had me thinking.......I need strong or more springs. Well, a big THANK YOU goes out to Bo Wallen who sold me an extra pair of leaf springs identical to the ones on my truck, this saved me from having to buy another rear suspension kit for parts. I took the leaf set apart, removed all of the spacers and replaced them with a second leaf of each length. I cut the second leaves off at the bend on each end so basically when it was all done my springs now have longer spacers in them which removed a lot of the flex. My springs are no taller than they were before just stiffer.
Top spring is before, bottom is after my modification. Last edited by Claus; 01-07-2017 at 03:39 AM. |

Re: Just Another Peterbilt......Half Breed.
Looking cool.
For the frosted windows, have you considered using clamshell style vacuformed packing to make them instead? It's usually thinner and more scale looking that what kits come with, it takes shapes with heat, and you're probably regularly throwing some away. |

Thanks Brandon. It looks good, I hope it works well but won't really know till I have a trailer of some kind.
