Thank you all for all the compliments and encouragements!
I am preparing the crane for the Cabin Fever Expo. I just assembled it and testing the essential functions. off course half of the functions don't work, so there is a lot of fixing to be done and I will bring a lot of tools to the show. ![]() Kerst |

Nothing wrong with working on your projects at the show. I was hesitant to bring my dragline years ago while it was in it's earlier stages of build but,Gary who puts the show on said bring it in. He figured there are a lot of models sitting in cars out in the parking lot who's owners are afraid of showing "work in progress"

Often people appreciate the works in progress more than the finished models. They give a better impression on how they come about. Looking forward! Kerst |

That is fantastic that you are bringing your crane to the show! I am looking forward to seeing it in person.
I agree with bringing spare parts and tools. I am very hard on my equipment as well and usually break something at a show.

I enjoyed the Cabin fever Expo tremendously. It gave me the chance to try everything out, play with my cranes and meet lots of great people. It was a great weekend, but afterwards I had to catch up with a few other things, so I didn't have much time for the LTM1800 till about a week ago.
I started working on the counterweights. I make them out of AL, which is a bit on the light side, but the whole crane turned out a bit too heavy, so that compensates nicely and AL is easy to work with. The total weight of what you see on the picture is around 14 Lbs. It is an easy job, but time intensive with lots of (hand) sawing and lots of milling. ![]() Kerst |

Wonderfull build. Very, very nice.
I too only get about 4 hours a week to work on my models. The upside is there is plenty of time to mull over ideas between working on the metal. If I don't get my weekly afternoon in the workshop I feel disapointed. |

Summer is usually slow with lots of other distractions, but I did find some time to work on the LTM1800.
I have worked on the Derrick mast. This set http://www.flickr.com/photos/dickvan...th/4622268767/ shows the LTM1800 with Derrick mast. This is the butt being out together: ![]() These are the sides of the 14 m middle piece: ![]() and this is the setup for milling the chords: ![]() Kerst |

I feel your pain. Did you use fixtures like I did? I had some warping in my boom but fixed it by clamping the whole section to my metal shear's table then ran my jewelers torch back and forth quickly heating up all of the solder joints and just about all were realigned.

I had the advantage of well fitting joints so there was little danger of everything falling apart. But it took me 4 or 5 times to get it all straight. kerst |
