It can be daunting to begin, but keep at it.

I bought my motors and electronic speed control (ESC) from Fingertech Technologies as they were smaller and a better fit for my project. Since your tractor is bigger, you may be able to handle the stronger RB 35 type motors.

Here are the website I browse for motors and other gear:
http://www.servocity.com/
http://www.robotshop.com/

Servocity has a few new models out, and they supply parts to RobotShop.

I am unsure what people are using for ESC when paired to the gear motors. Robotshop has a few controllers that would be worth checking out. Aside from the ESC, you may need to find a proper battery eliminator circuit (BEC), a receiver/transmitter, and a servo for the 3pt hitch if you desire. Since its a track drive, you would actually need 2 ESC so you can control the speed of each motor to be able to steer.

Some people use continuous rotation servos. They seem to work great, and require less space. ESC are not needed. If you go with 2 servos, you would need a receiver/transmitter, a BEC, and a 3rd servo for the 3 point hitch if your going to bother.
