International Harvester Farmall 1256 (1967-69)
This tractor has already shown up in a few pics as background clutter for my Cockshutt 70 build. It's an old 1/16 Ertl toy.
Not going to be anything too exotic: gearmotors, nimh, 2 ch, keeping it in 'work clothes', probably adding some lights. International-Harvester Farmall 1256 Turbo. Was available as either 'standard' (wide front) or 'row-crop' (narrow front). Part of the "56" series, it has a 6cyl turbo-diesel. These could be had with Open operator with fenders, 2-post ROPS, and several cab options. I really like as it sits with Dual wheels, 'ice cream box' cab, front bar for suitcase weights Drag it out of the tree row Let's start cleaning up those axles, and get the tires ready to go to town

Re: International Harvester Farmall 1256 (1967-69)
Thanks jerry, this one should go a little quicker since i already kinda know the recipe. (Plus it's got a Turbo)
Did the usual drill some rivets and stuff until parts stop touching. Hacked off the old axle tubes, wallow it out until you can slide in gearmotors. This time we're playing with CA glue and Baking Powder to mount them to the tractor half. To run wide dual wheels and clear the cab, ertl put on a spacer, then had both rims the same way toward the tractor. Not 'right' or pretty, but i liked the width, and it's about what we'll get with these motor axles. Plus it's gonna be wide enough i should be able to really back up some traffic! Some shaft couplers, rod, and solder gets me a really long brass 'wheel to gearmotor adapter mount thing'. Turn it down to size that looks about right, glue in wheels. Then i can run it so on each side we have a wheel set Wide and Narrow. With no ugly Toy wheel stiffener ribs showing. Before i get too crazy i need to order parts to rebuild front Axle, and probably some suitcase Weights, and other small details from https://dakotahtoyparts.com

I like how those gear motors fit in there. Very clean looking!

Re: International Harvester Farmall 1256 (1967-69)
Thanks tgrzes! i really like the look of these even if they're still a lot bulkier than the toys cast hexagonal axle tubes of the real machine. With some paint, they seem to camoflage into the machines pretty well.
Electronics plan: 20ga130D012 dc12v 50rpm gearmotor - 2 ---- Nope, these are wrong ---- Kastar 1600 mAh nimh - 6 (2x3 triangle pack) Mg90s (knockoff) servo Hobbypower 10A esc This machine will build off the Right half since that's where the exhaust stack hole, and battery casting are. Layout is probably looking something like this After some head scratching, i think I'll drop the Charge plug out between cab and 'battery' as a male micro jst plug (since it looks like a tiny Anderson Powerpole and makes sence for using with a really good set of jumper cables around the farm). Then i'm thinking a horizontal switch for Charge/Run under the 'battery', and a vertical switch for Esc On/off forward of that. Unless it changes? --- Uh, pretty sure i grabbed the wrong gear-motors off the shelf. I said these were 12v 50rpm, but on the other tractor it says i used some 12v 200rpm. The worst part of it all, is that I never learned how to read!

Re: International Harvester Farmall 1256 (1967-69)
Sorry everyone, i was too early starting this thread.
These might keep you busy while i'm trying to find the right gearmotors Highway to Sell (Highway to h**l) https://youtu.be/-asCruwr7_w Farmer Rock Anthem (Party Rock Anthem) https://youtu.be/jYZPcUNyUaQ Cropdusters (Ghostbusters theme) https://youtu.be/h3KztgV-yos -- -- -- -- -- These aren't worth a real update How to look more 'Tractory'. But i'm probably not going past using weathering juice just to look greasy/oily https://www.scaledracula.com/country...-3-weathering/ So these are ''20D'' gearmotors. Available with 130 or 180 motors, i'm using 130s to keep tractor width about the same as pre-conversion. I had ordered 12v because that's what That Jungle website had at the time. It doesn't have the torque since i'm under-volting. Plus i think i may have a bad esc since when i dropped it into a wagon and it's giving smooth power 1 way, and weird fluctuating power the other. Polulu has good spec sheets and looks like the Carbon Brush can take higher torque than Precious Metal. https://www.pololu.com/product/3706

Re: International Harvester Farmall 1256 (1967-69)
I realized I haven't visited the farm in a while...
That old farmer ordered some Surpass hobby 180 - 87t motors, which is supposed to be a crawler motor upgrade for a trx4m. 6v, hobbygrade, and torque seemed like a good place to start to turn Way Too Much tire. I don't remember what range those reduction boxes were supposed to be. I think earlier i had mentined "50rpm" and "200 rpm" which were probably numbers from an asian site? The jungle site says that at some point i ordered some 20d as short ''30rpm'' at 382:1, and some short "100 rpm" at 100:1. Heatgun on 'full send' to burn the old CA bond so i could break out the 12v motors. Abuse the brass pinion off new motor, abuse tiny brass pinion off old motor, and onto new. Fight motors into tractor halves and rebond into the old CA & powder. Reinstall gearboxes to motors. A smart guy probably would have charged a battery and tested the new gearmotor assembly with a tractor wheel before finalizing that, so i didn't. I'm not sure if any of this is better, but maybe it's different now. -- Ziptie tractor halves back together, mounted the Single tires instead of Duals for testing. Stabbed 1 motor direct to 6 cell nimh, it starts doing a wheel hopping burnout and chucking things off my desk! Winner winner chicken dinner.

Re: International Harvester Farmall 1256 (1967-69)
So the old farmer is buildin' a pullin' tractor, not a plowin' tractor? Got a sled so he can show how to do full pulls at the next show?

Re: International Harvester Farmall 1256 (1967-69)
Well, to tell a family secret, I don't have a clue what i'm building.
Dunno dd, i thought it was just an old Plowin' Tractor, somehow thought those crawler motors were for bogging deep and turning a lot of tire? It should tame down some with electronics and battery mounted. If not, we'll just crank down the EPA throw. Now that you mention it, there was somebody who brought a pulling sled to some meets to let semis compete, and one of the winter meets had scale tractor pullers running a bunch of straight-piped weed eaters indoors.
