Scania Toter
First I built a stock truck - Scania 640 - made the wife real happy to see that I built one complete before I started to modify it...
- then I ordered up a pre-transmission 3:1 from Willy - tied in a PMD puller motor... - had to back later and change out the shift servo again to a full size - did that at Indy .... A then did my ussual - thought about it for a few weeks .....Had been thinking of keeping it a twin axel but then decided for a Single ..... Then earlier this week the time felt right ...... Tear it down Used a set of trailing arms that I got from Ed 2yrs ago and made hangers and trailing arms... I located the aaaxel so that I could maintain the Scania fender system ...... Waht you think so far......Izzy Last edited by Izzy; 09-12-2010 at 07:54 AM. |

Re: Scania Toter
- some more pics -
Shortening the frame On Friday I spent some time at a mill and made the rear hitch assembly - had drawn it up weeks ago and pondered how it might turn out... I used standazrd shocks witht he springs to the bottom - over the screw and inside the shock body - adds spring on the lift side - used nitro fuel tube where the spring normally is placed for support - alittle give but plety strong test fit the fenders - planned it so that the hitch had the fender supports in them found out that I shortened it less than the stadard drive shaft - used a punisher I had - happened to e the right length. ... spent Sat. morning on the fifth wheel plate - used the one from the powered leg kit - areal tight fit on a single axel short wheel base - sorry only a few pics..... And spent last night working on the hitch lift mechanism.....370 oz-in servo !!!! Had to reverse the hitch plates - Servo just fits behind the axel - seriously tight for space - got lucky as I picked up the servo yesterday and did not plan on the spacing. |

Re: Scania Toter
Any body from northern Indiana knows what this truck is for or any body who bought a new house and it showed up on wheels. Good job Izzy the truck looks great.

Re: Scania Toter
Right on the nose - round here - mobile home manufacturing capital of the US - or at least it was until about 2yrs ago - theyre called "toters". Best technical term is "Modular Home re-location and services vehicle".....
a video - at the tail end is the hitch - I have it on a 2-way switch - and this is what toters are for.... |

Re: Scania Toter
Very neat modification to the Scania Chris, very cool! Love the ball hitch setup.
When are we going to see something built to pull behind it?! -Alex |

Re: Scania Toter
I purchased wheels in Indy this year - along with leaf springs - I ned to modify the axels (longer) and come up with a hanger system. Already been thinking about the frame system - probably 3/8 x 3/4 16ga channels back to back
Debating whether I go with a Modular type set---up (where the frame gets returned for the next hosue section) or Mobile type set-up (where the frae is a structural part of the house. I am leaning for Modular - so some day we can have a crane set the house sections in place...... Most modulars around here are 16' x 80' with hinged roof sections for height limitations... that's 13" x 66" scaled out |

But yes, I think the modular route would be a little bit cooler, especially with the mention of a telescopic crane to pick the sections and set them in place. Heck that white corrugated material you used for the scale shack (at least if I remember correctly that's yours) would be perfect for something like this! -Alex |

Re: Scania Toter
Would a crawler crane work instead of a telescopic?

Re: Scania Toter
Alex - I have pondered the corex (cardboard like plastic sheet) for the house portion - I had thought that maybe it was too chinsey and un-realistic..... I have been checking out doll house stuff - not quit the same scale but maybe close enough????? I'll need windows, doors, roofing, siding, shutters etc....
Terry - I have been thinking about a torpedo deck and camping trailers .... LOL or maybe even one of the double deck ones with pop ups.... Dad drove both and even a custom straight truck with a bever tail trailer - very unique.... Since I am home sick from work ... cough .... cough ... cough I will post some pics of the last few days work... More to uplaod this afternoon ..... |
