What is with almost everyone's dislike of offroad trucks?

Sure, a stiff suspension is not very useful, but look at those and tell me that they are not cool:

www.google.co.uk/search?q=oilfield+trucks

A nicely done offroad truck would IMO certainly stand out at a show and not just because of its height.

Cheers

The real off road trucks are cool and if the models are done right they are cool too, but the way this one looked it was more toy like than anything. Aluminum wheels and chrome accessories don't really look off road. Big wheels alone don't make an off road truck.

It is not that it had a stiff suspension it had no suspension. Yes the oil field and off road trucks are cool but it has to be done right and TamiyaCowboy here on the forum did it right.

Click here to see it done right.

Hi Travis!

I think it had potential to be modified into a cool and functional offroad truck, that's all.
Hence I was surprised to see such negative comments.

Good luck with your new build
Jens

Hi Claus!

> Big wheels alone don't make an off road truck.
You don't say!
Offroad duallies are quite rare (both for models and 1:1s) and so I thought it would have been nice to maintain this characteristic feature of the original build and work on its shortcomings.

Cheers
Jens

Hi JensR!

Your right it had some potential for an off road truck but the negative comments were more about the hack who built the truck just to try and cash in on the look of an off road truck and make a quick buck.

I for one have no problem pointing these guys out who just want to make the quick buck after seeing the interest forum members show in a certain type of truck and this one was no different. The truck I tore apart was just a wast of good parts.

Here is another good example of a prime mover done right, a fantastic truck by tracksntreadslou.

Hi Travis,

Yes, tracksntreadslou's logging truck is the one I had in mind regarding the potential

But I guess I didn't know enough about the history of your project.

Cheers

Thanks Will, I hope to have more parts next week. I like the off road truck myself but I doubt I will ever build one.

Needs bigger tires!
#hehehe# Sorry, could not resist!

I am sure you can do it!

Carson/Tamiya makes some Fulda Crossforce tires to go onto the regular rims.
There are other manufacturers as well, but they might be difficult (or "just" expensive) to get in the USA?

Well I have to come clean here a little what I showed you is what I was sent to start with but I am building 2 trucks for a member here on the forum.

One will be a heavy haul truck and the other will be a Roll back tow truck.
