Default Aeromax Overhaul

I have decided to rebuild my Aeromax. Making it into a winch tractor. Started with suspension changes to get better travel and traction.

Got time in on winch deck and housing as it was raining today. Here is a mock up as is. Also decided to lower sleeper some for a pop up wide load sign.

Lots to do yet. Went with steel as I want some weight to stabilize truck for winch work. Have lazer cut parts on order for a tail roll and several other small parts. Going to add a manual sliding 5th wheel plate.

Working at a welding shop I brought in a few 20' lengths of square bar. Pricing power I paid pennies a foot for 1/4", 3/8" & 1/2" material. Far cheaper than the ey stock.

That's a beautiful job on your rear axles setup. It looks like you are going to have a lot of articulation, and I would think that the stock dogbones are going to want to fall out. Are you looking at aftermarket replacements for this?
Also, if you want to update it to a Sterling, there are now replacement stickers that fit the kit body:

I will be changing out the drive shafts. However I owned a fleet of 5 ford's very similar to this hauling cattle and hogs. I will likely not update to sterling. Thanks for the info though.

Got the frames drilled, tail roll working, and enough assembly done to order in drive shafts. Here us how she looks. Want to make sure all is functioning correctly before I worry about paint and polish.

Pretty strong looking setup, looks like double frame rails.

That is epic. I like it. I also like the double frame rails. Make it look really clean, and different. Bet ya don't bend it.

Thanks

Nice job on the air suspension upgrade.
Can you give us an idea of what the final product is going to look like?

Got drive shafts and enought other parts finally all assembled. Went out to play and in the end blew my steering servo horn. Was running a stock tamiya kit horn on steering servo. Might have had something to do with the 75 lbs rock on the trailer. Got to hand in to Garden Trucking and the 4:1 gear reduction unit amazing pull power increase. Was just about to add another 75 lbs or so rock onto the second trailer of my supper b set when the steering went. Here is a pictur of the rock I got slammed in the duals with the first bolder on deck.

Also shows the new drive shafts.
Here are some other pics of the winch deck. Still making tool boxes, alum headach rack plates, alum fenders, and working on cab yet.

Still lots to do but getting closer all of the time. Hope ya all like.

That looks nice. Those tires definitely have some knobs on them. I think your cab protector/winch mount and platform turned out really nice. With black paint on them, those parts look great! Did you paint the cab yet?

If all goes good I will be getting to paint on the cab tomorrow. Was still adding a little filler to some of the custom changes. Mabey gona go into work where I have good toys and make the tool boxes tomorrow too. Polishing the alum will take a while I am still playing around with my tumbler to find good results in using it to do base polish.
