Default MFU-vs-Battery

Did a real dumb thing today.....actually last night about 2330 hrs....found out that i soldered the battry lead from a Lipo to a Deans connector on backwards......well i am sure you all can figure what happened next. A MFU makes a loud sizzling sound (kinda like bacon in grease) followered by smoke that smells like train smoke, then finally it makes a sound kinda like a small balloon. All of this in about 1.5 second.....it was faster than i couls say $#!T and pull the plug apart.

The moral of the story: Don't solder battery leads at 2330 after wokring all day and trying to get ready for a show the next when you have to get up at 530.

Guess i will have a new MFU on the way!! stuff happens!!!!

very easy to make mistakes when your tired ive done it many times, now i force myself to pack up if its late and i need to do something technical, does the room still smell of the smoke? i find that it hangs around for a long time whenever you fry an esc or anything electronic like that

I've always found that the length of time that the stench lingers is in direct relation to the replacement cost of whatever you smoked.

Sucks that this happened, but you're not the first to do it, if that's any consolation.

BTDT... them Leimbach esc's are really sensitive, you don't even to cross polarity to blow 'em up.

It is an easy fix, you just need to keep a shop vac handy. When you let out the majic smoke, just suck it up, put the esc to the tube and hit reverse. All the smoke goes back in and viola! Your back in business!

In all seriousness, that sucks. In my experiences its not worth the cost, down time or hassle to get things like that repaired. Ive smoked a lot of electronics and they usually cost 60 to 80 percent of the original cost to repair.
