Gravel boxes for your King Hauler
I am almost ready to send these out to be powder coated so I thought I should post up some pictures and provide a little explanation of what you would be getting should any of you choose to buy one of my kits.
The price on these is $725US each, plus shipping. To calculate shipping cost, my postal code is V9Z0K5. When packaged, one box weighs just under 3kg and the box size is roughly 50cmx29cmx24.5cm. I may consider doing some custom boxes or modifications but that can be discussed with the individual if the need arises. The boxes themselves are hand made, all aluminum and are TIG welded together. I press out the sides of the box but that is it. The rest of the pieces are cut out, bent in a manual brake and individually hand fitted before welding. I have been messing around with a couple of different cab protector designs but generally this is something that isn't too difficult to change while building to meet what the customer wants. Of course every time I build something new it takes more time so it may increase the price slightly. Tailgate latches are mechanical therefore they do not require any wiring or extra channels on your TX/RX. The frames and drives are made up of a few different machined aluminum pieces and are bolted together. The screw drives consist of a small 6V gear motor and a piece of ACME thread. I use ACME thread not only because it is more course to speed up the dump speed but it is also stronger and the square cut threads shoulder a load better. The down side is that it is much more expensive than going with a normal NC type thread. I am not running limit switches on the shafts so some care and attention will have to be taken when reaching the limits of travel in each direction. I may decide to add these at a later date but for now it seems that most of the people I have spoken with don't find them necessary. I have installed this kit onto my own KH with only modifying one cross member(you need to remove the rib on the one ahead of the X member). The "prop rod" fits between the X member and the modified cross member. If you are running aftermarket frame parts the kit may not fit "as is" and will most likely need to be modified. The rear hinge mounts using factory holes and the rear bumper supplied with the kit. You must provide an ESC and be able to solder your own wires to the gear motor. It should also be noted that you cannot mount your battery between the frame rails behind the cab as it will most likely interfere with the prop rod. After that long winded explanation, here is what I have nearly completed on the bench... The one in the middle without side boards is the same as what you see on my KH with the exception that I have reduced the rear overhang by 1/2". It fits a stock height or slightly raised(1/4") cab. The other two are virtually Identical to each other, and have a slightly higher cab guard(different shape too) and side boards. All three use the same frames and drives. The undersides will be finished like on my KH. Here's a short video from today.http://youtu.be/rm0lg49uiaI If anyone has any questions or comments please let me know! Re: Gravel boxes for your King Hauler
These ones are finished now and ready to be disassembled for their trip to the powder coater. If anyone is interested now would be a good time to pick a color. I will most likely have them done in silver or black unless someone has a suggestion?
I also have these bumper choices to choose from for anyone interested in a box. Thanks for looking! |

I should note that Lou bought just a box and tailgate so that he could decide if he wanted to run either a screwdrive or hydraulic setup of his own design. I am more than willing to build them for others this way at less than half the cost of a complete kit. This setup would ship without powder coat because the buyer will most likely be modifying the body for mounts ect. Total cost on a box and gate would be $300CAD + shipping. Thanks, Reg |

Re: Gravel boxes for your King Hauler
Here's mine... half of it anyway. Simple as pie to put on the trk, just how I like it.
The pup needs a little more work than just adding the box.

Re: Gravel boxes for your King Hauler
I picked up half of my things from the powder coater yesterday. I'm never one to brag about the things I make but this box looks awesome in gloss black! I have another one being done in silver(slightly different design and a different silver than on my KH) so it will be interesting to compare the two and get some input. It is very hard to photograph the black well as it looks much different in person. I am going to my local sign shop today to get some reflective decals made like the one I made and put on the lower portion of the box. They will be able to do a much nicer job than me! All the mounts are now coated semi gloss to match the factory frame color too!
Bits and pieces, Here's a pic of it sitting on the frame but not properly mounted, Underside, Thanks for looking! |

Re: Gravel boxes for your King Hauler
I started a new album on my bucket for the KH and moved everything related over not realizing it would delete the pictures here. All back in one big pile now so I think it is working...Probably could have sold 3-4 boxes with those pictures this morning too! Wishful thinking....

Re: Gravel boxes for your King Hauler
Haha Thanks for the heads up that it wasn't working! I turned on my wife's laptop and what you saw came up right away. I'm not sure why I could still see them while logged in on our home computer. Well, I'm no wiz at this stuff anyway so I will just leave things alone from now on!
