Eagle 870k loader modifications: Light kit and more..
Hi,
I just wanted to share my modifications to my loader. I've not found anywhere that could help me when I added the light kit, so I though I could share my experiences here to maybe help others in the same situation. There might also be other modification later. The loader as it looks originally: I ordered the light kit with the loader, but it was not installed for me. It was all in a bag with really a lot of led lights and a control board. One sheet of paper in Chinese was the only supplied documentation. I used the magic (IMHO) Google Translate app in camera mode to see what the documentation read. I've used the same light setup as in the official Eagle Mach demo video: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pDR8uSJ7TE Adding the rear lights The rear lights fit into holes in the cast iron rear ballast parts. But they did not fix in the hole, and I didn't want to glue them in, so I 3D-printed a part that fixes them in position. Also, the part is springy, so if I run into something that pushes the led into the housing, it will spring right back. Steps to install the rear lights: 1. Remove the wheels (unscrew all screws in the outer circle of screws in the rim) 2. Remove the fender 3. Push the LEDs into position Steps to install the front lights: (you don't need to remove the cab, even if I did it here) 1. Thread the wires under the cab, along the hydraulic hoses and out on the sides 2. Take the light fixtures apart completely (unscrew all parts) 3. I had to drill the whole in the fixture a little larger to fit the 5mm led. 4. Thread the wires 5. Push the LEDs into the holes 6. Bend the LED wires into position 7. Screw everything back together Steps to install the cab lights: 1. Unscrew the two screws that go into the roof on each of the cab sides in the front, just above the doors 2. Unscrew the two screws that go down into the cab walls from the roof in the rear 3. Take off the roof 4. Push all the LEDs into their holes 4. (optional) If you have a rotating beacon, drill a hole in the roof. I also had to drill a wider hole to allow the nut to be close to the light, because the roof is so thick there were no threads to screw onto without the wider hole. 5. Fixed the wires to the roof using the supplied fixtures 6. Re-attach the roof Done! :-) The result: https://youtu.be/4PCMgbxHJKI Last edited by SteinHDan; 08-27-2017 at 02:09 PM. |

Excellet!! Thank you. Even though I don't have this loader, the theory is the same for all.

That is quite an involved procedure, no wonder they don't want to install them.
Nice job! |

Nice job !
Mine should be here on Wednesday so getting the lights fitted will probably be the first job .. any chance you would share an STL for the LED holders ? Already orders the tool steel to fabricate a set of forks for mine and working on the mechanism for the quick hitch now. |

Have any of you seen snow chains for this loader? I'm sliding around on the snow and ice here in Norway now...
Best regards, Stein :-) |

Not that I have seen a set special for the 870k, I have seen the chains that go around the whole tire side wall and all. More for protection then traction I guess. Mite be creative time...

Re: Eagle 870k loader modifications: Light kit and more..
Not sure quarry chains are really going to help you unless they are well spaced. They'll just fill and freeze up. What you really need is a more aggressive tread on a softer compound tire. Wonder if some 1.9" crawler tire chains may work though?

Those tire chains there, they are what the steel mills use on the front loader that empties that slag pits. There's just enough protection from the molten metal that the rubber tires can survive long enough to scoop up a bucket of stuff & get out. |

Re: Eagle 870k loader modifications: Light kit and more..
Thanks again, buys. I agree on the mesh and I've also had a look at the crawler chains. Those look pretty good. But I fear even with those that it will be slippery. I'm contemplating to weave my own using ladder chain links and bending the ends another 90 degrees so that there will be a quite flat surface from the ladder chain against the rubber tire and then actual spikes (from the ends that stick out) that will grip on the ice.

Re: Eagle 870k loader modifications: Light kit and more..
Every time I run this loader, I get a little annoyed by the drive system. I think it has been beautifully crafted and it's really nice to look at, but it doesn't function like I want it too.
If I'm running in diff lock mode, it hurts the steering. If I run with free diffs, I don't really get the traction I want and one or two wheels are spinning. Also, there is so much slack in the drive train that you get really jerky movements when going downhill with bumps and the motor has to both push and pull all the time. I don't really want to modify it, but I'm contemplating to replace the current drive mechanism with four gear motors, one in each wheel, like I have for my Bruder loader. I never have the traction issues on that one. I hate the idea of cutting into this beautiful model. But currently I'm not using it that much, because of the non-optimal function of the current drive train. Any views? Stein |
