Default Tamiya Mercedes Benz 1850L Build

Hi this is the first ever truck build I've attempted. I decided on the 1850L as I've been really wanting to build this for years but finally plucked up the courage to buy and try. So far this is how far I've got mainly because I forgot to order bearings and a motor so it needs to be stripped down already. Anyways looking forward to learning as I go. Chris

Not sure If I should do it box art or go with something different. Been looking around but there's nothing that jumping out I should do instead. After looking through some other builds I'll definatley be spraying the wheels as the chrome is a little too much 'In your face' also bought some satin black for the black body parts.

Well after looking for assistance with the stiffness of the suspension. I've decided to spray the wheel in a matt alimiunium colour after seeing them in this photo. The chrome for me is a little to plastic looking. I'll be using the same colour as I used on the defender above

Nearly forgot. I'll be adding the wheel nut covers from a Axial SCX10 kit for more of a bit scale looking wheel too. Plus there cheap too

looking good so far! if you paint the wheels you will want to take the chrome off first before painting. paint it any color you want but the box art color is very cool. i have 2 box trucks one is white with my old company logos on it and the other if i ever build it will be box art color

The more and more I look at the box it seems to be growing on me. Thanks for advising on the wheels as I was going to spray over the chrome. I've heard dishwashers are good at removing the chrome from plastic ( Or is that me randomly mis-remembering something stupid lol ). I'll update this as often as I can

Thanks! I'm really enjoying the build & trying to add my own little touches. I've bought a can of Satin Black for the exterior plastic body parts and a few other bits. I've also recieved today a set of British licence plates but then realised It's a german truck / delivery company lol

yellow top oven cleaner will take the chrome right off and wont harm the plastic. I have done it several times on bodies I want to repaint. works like a charm. matter of fact this week im going to start redoing my globe liner. satin black will look good on the body parts thats what i painted my volvo and scania with. here is a pic of my 1850l

Nice start to a great truck Christo! I too have a 1850L, mine was used but I tore the truck down and rebuilt it along with a new coat of paint (Ferrari red and flat black).

Thanks for the replies guys, The wheels are ready for the oven cleaner (Chosen Mr Muscle and an old F350 chrome part to test. Plus I might have to go easy on the cost of the 2.4Ghz radio esc etc.. going in this build as I've just seen the Carson 1:14 Forklift and I love the little thing!

I'm definite going ahead with the 'GB' licence plates. Even If I do go box art. More pictures will follow this ain't a written build lol

Thought since it's been a while since I've added an update. I'm still here but been buying parts for the Scania R620 instead of the Merc 1850L. But I'm back an ready to wait for more parts to arrive

if you want less stiffness, ditch the dampers! also some good heavy weights sat on the frame for a couple days will give the rear suspension some more play.
