Default Motors, gears and stuff?

I have recently gone into a few thrift stores and it occurred to me that there may be some old unwanted household type stuff there with usable motors or gears or other good stuff for use in a RC conversion project.

Do any of you have favorite donor items you have found to contain good "stuff"?

I'm thinking maybe old typewriters, hand mixers, and who knows what?

If you have any success I would love to hear about it. I will probable try to find something inexpensive and common, buy it, take it home, tear it apart and see what I find.

Jim

The most common donors for drivetrain components are probably the little cordless screw drivers, or drills. Even the drive motors for power windows on vehicles can be good.

My garage door opener died last night, the track for the drive chain, is "T" shaped, I'm thinking great material for track pads. It's an older Chamberlin Power Drive opener.

Yes! Or brand new ones from Princess Auto... Either way, a good source of strong ring and pinion gears...
