Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
Reg, this is another outstanding boat. I very much enjoy your boat builds, since growing up on a pleasure boat in the Great Lakes. I never got to see the ocean trawlers but seen alot of old GL fishing boats and always thought they were neat! Is the anchor winch operational?

Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
Thanks very much for following along. I know this forum wasn't really intended for boat builds but it's nice to have a section for those of us who build and or enjoy them. The anchor winch is not functional but I suppose it wouldn't be that difficult to make one that was.
I picked up some small stranded wire from the craft section at Walmart today. When I got home I finished up most of the rigging and put on the boat name and numbers. The wire works pretty good and looks quite scale. I still have a list of things to do but I believe that I will have it finished before my buddy arrives this coming week...I hope! ...and a couple of it alongside of Jackfish Thanks for lookin! |

I finished up some details in the last two days. All that's left to do on my list(list could have been longer) is install the proper battery once I pick it up tomorrow. Considering the frustration I had with it in the first 8 months I'm pretty happy with how it has turned out. Now I find myself hoping that my friend doesn't like it so that I can keep it. Hopefully I can get some video of the two boats cruising the pond in a few days... On the water... Thanks for lookin! |

Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
Reg,
Nice video! How and what are you using to cut the aluminum, specifically the square windows in the wheelhouse? And, is that part .032 or what? Again, very nice, thanks for the thread! Jim |

Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
They look so good, I almost expect to see people running on the deck of those vessels.
I like the buoys that you added side for the lines. |

Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
Thanks very much. It was really great to get both boats on the water together while my buddy was here. The blue one has gone home with him now, far away from the coast so I doubt it will ever happen again. I have to say that it was a great moment to see my friends reaction when he first saw the boat in our shop. He didn't know that it was anything more than a hull and motor and was completely surprized by it...

Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
Thanks guys. I have been wanting to upgrade this to a 2.4 TX/RX for a long time but just hadn't got around to it. I have also been collecting some other devices for it too so with the arrival of some parts last week I decided to open things up and make the changes.
I used a 6ch Orange RX and my DX6i for radio gear and a couple of electronic switches from Hobby King to control my lighting and the newly added water pump. I picked up this $5 pump from Princess Auto a few weeks ago thinking it may work for this project. It turns out that it works perfectly so I will be buying another if they still have stock. On our real fish boat we have a seperate engine that runs our lighting and one of our wash down pumps. It uses a heat exchanger and runs sea water through the exhaust manifold to help cool the engine. One through-hull picks water up near the keel and the other spits it back out above the water line. I used the same setup in the model and it actually looks fairly realistic when operating. Here's a couple videos of it in action once I was finished doing the work. It was quite winding yesterday and in the first video the boat almost rolls over in a big gust of wind! It blew the skiff right off of the roof! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLRO...tJ-DusnO8Onw7A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZuo...tJ-DusnO8Onw7A Reg Last edited by RCP57; 06-16-2014 at 09:41 AM. |

Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
Nice video, the gust of wind came as a nice surprise! Looks sharp with the outriggers fully out. Gotta love Princess Auto for cheap gear. I'm pretty sure I saw that pump, but had so use for it at the time. It seems to serve your purpose well.

Re: Another BC fishing vessel...
I am as much of a dry lander as there has ever been, I don't know nothing or care nothing about boats but both of those are beautiful! Amazed at the work you turn out.
