Transmission Question
I am using a Tamiya truck 3-speed transmission for an off-road dump and have a question about the shifting rod and centering springs. Are these springs required or can they be removed and let the servo hold the rod in the position for 2nd speed? Truck will probably be in 1st gear most of the time and thought it might be better not to have the spring compressed so much and would require less torque to shift without them.
Since I don't have experience with this, would appreciate comments and suggestions. Thanks, Ken

Re: Transmission Question
Maybe should have put this in Truck Tech, instead?

Re: Transmission Question
I am curious to tha answer to this one, as I am working on my first truck, and just built the tranny. I didn't think that the springs put too much tension at all, especially with the current availability of metal gear servos.

Re: Transmission Question
Your observation was the same response provided by Travis. The springs don't have enough tension to cause any problems when using 1st gear (or third) majority of the time. Currently available servos will handle it without problems.
