Re: Tires for conversions
Any idea if the WPL wheels are all the same backspacing?
Does any particular set make axle wider / narrower? I was considering some parts for a Medium Duty truck. The V3 might be about right

Re: Tires for conversions
I "think" all the WPL singles are the same back spacing, and as far as I know they only make the one style of metal duals... and they are just 2 fronts put together so you can sort of tell what kind of back spacing they have...
Once you get the hang of it changing the back spacing on a WPL wheel is pretty easy if you have the STL.. |

I found this video about backspacing

Re: Tires for conversions
I'm looking for something to make an axle a little wider than V1 wheels, with V1 tires
I was thinking V3 / V3 tires might be in the ballpark, and little more height. Don't really need duals. For a late 60s/Early 70s special purpose commercial fleet truck. 6" outside of fenders front. 6 1/8" outside fenders rear.

Re: Tires for conversions
Usually the V3 tires come with wheels, if the ones you get don't I have some if you need them... plus there are some stock looking "steelie" wheels on thingiverse

Re: Tires for conversions
Also since i'm waiting on parts and things, have you looked much at the MN cars? (That MN78 looks kinda sharp)
Any idea on some specs for the JJRC Q65 wheels? NDT tires (non-directional tread - jeep flatfender or other military ) Or how much axle width and lift beyond WPL is added for the 'RBRC' Portal Axle?

Re: Tires for conversions
I have seen the MN78 on the WPl pages... it does look like a pretty nice truck....but I haven't looked into it much....but those chrome WPL size rims and looking interesting
The JJRC Q65 has been around for a while, it claims to be 1/10but you know how that goes, the only true way I know of to tell what scale these things are is to buy it and hope for the best....I've got so much sitting here in the pipeline I haven't looked into them ... I've heard the metal portal axles are ok, but the plastic ones not so much....I think they are the same width as the rest of the WPL stuff but I'm not 100% sure... as for lift I don't know ... |

Re: Tires for conversions
I stumbled across Lesu 1/16 scale tractor/trailer tires that LOOK to be about the right fit for Bruder conversions, 76mm OD with both "narrow" and "wide" widths available. I think the narrow tires are about 20mm wide and the "wide" tires are about 27mm? I've got a pair of both on order. I want to see if the narrow tires will work for steer tires and duals, and the wide tires for super singles.

Re: Tires for conversions
Here are some other options for the 12mm hex axle crowd
Tamiya 'on-road race semi' super-single wheels for Tt01 / tt02 chassis. Wheels have Front & Rear offset styles. Matte-chrome or Black 51588 wheels with Sp-1589 / 51589 tires Height 2.750" / 70mm Width 1.110" / 29mm Img -- Traxxas 7378 wheels come with some pretty hard slick tires, but work with 1:10 car tires such as these Tamiya rally block tires, sp-476 / 50476 Height 2.700 / 68mm Width 1.170 / 27mm Img

Re: Tires for conversions
I got my "narrow" tires last night, the wide tires are apparently still on a slow boat from somewhere. I originally thought these were 76mm OD tires, they aren't, they're 70mm OD. The Bruder tires are 76mm though. When you set them on the ground next to the Bruder tires that 6mm difference is quite noticeable. But, when you center the tires on the axle it's only a 3mm difference which isn't quite so glaring. Things can easily be adjusted to compensate for that 3mm.
The "narrow" tires are 20mm wide and aren't nearly as wide as the steer tires on any of my Bruder Granite trucks, but they are spot on for the width of the duals. I've found tires to replace the Bruder duals, and I'm hoping the "wide" tires will be a good of a match to the steer tires. If anybody's interested, the Lesu part number for the "narrow" 1/16 scale tire is: LS-1-16-60002. Don Edit 4/2/24 - I got the "wide" 1/16 scale tires, they're kind of disappointing. At 22mm wide they are only a couple of mm wider than the "narrow" 20mm tires, but they have the same OD. This is the Lesu part number if you're interested: LS-1-16-60001.
