Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hey Mario, have you considered a pizza cutter for the roots, http://www.equipmentland.com/product...83324_zoom.jpg Clamps on a loader or trackhoe bucket. I have one for my Cat 305C CR, just for cutting large tree roots.
Cheers, Neil. |

I think a hyd shear from premacon would be best but beyond my pocket book. Haven't given up hope yet though. I might try putting a pair of pruning shears on the end of the hoe.have a motor driving a acme thread to open and close. ? see what happens this winter. Mario |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Got a package today from Brian!
My lights have arrived safe and sound. For the longest time I've wanted to start getting some stuff from Exclusive RC and finally I have my first custom 3D printed items! . Best part is, they not only look great but are going to be quite functional and a great addition to the pit. |

Well, the tower lights will have to wait till next year before I set them up in the pit. After the rain we had today and forecast is rain all week, I had no choice but to shut er down for the winter.
The ground is so saturated from all the rain , my back yard is a lake right now! http://youtu.be/TQsDAwXSIes I've already got ideas and plans for a pit sump pump and waterline......next year |

would make a really good mini jet sprint area, some 1/10 boats , the biggest motor you can fit in it, what could go wrong. LOL

I think , come next fall , after another summer of digging and opening up the pit, I'll have room to bring out my laker ship the Wilfred Sykes for sure! But I really like your idea, there was enough water in the entire yard to run speed boats for sure! Lol Last edited by Supermario; 10-21-2014 at 09:12 PM. |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Built by my dad in 1967. I played with it as a kid, forgot about it and rediscovered in my parents attic a few years after he passed away. I plan on restoring and upgrading to full RC but still caught up in the construction bizz right now.
42" long 4 3/4 wide. Not sure what the scale is. It's an actual ship that still sails the greatlakes to this day as far as I know. |

I know you have been getting a lot of rain up there but don't you think that is going over board....LOL Great looking old lake freighter....

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Been on a RC break the last couple months. Change in season and crazy snowfall hasn't helped
Still gathering parts and stuff for a conveyor build I want to do next. thought I would share what I'm thinking for a drive system. The belt tension idea is something I saw Izzy use on one of his conveyors in the past and I think will work great. I'm using 2" wide rubber, 1/8 thick. Still need to make the drive roller and idler rollers. Planning on 3-4 ft in length. Flanged bearings and 1/4 D shaft It's hard to explain or describe the stretch of this rubber? Maximum stretch of a 2ft length was less than 6" stretch. Lots of splice testing to do but I'm positive I can make this stuff work. Mario |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
A better idea that I came up with last Spring was car tire tubes, cut the width of the belt from the outside/middle of the circumference for an endless loop belt - no splices. Stretched to fit - no adjustable slides to mess with either.
All the tire tubes I found in the junk pile at the tire repair shop in town (freebies ), all tubes had mold lines on them that I followed, cutting the rubber with scissors with great accuracy in width. A few conveyers is on my 'to-do list' too this winter.

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Would motorcycle tubes work or are they too thin? I have a few in 19" and 21" from my dirt bikes that I was hoping I could use. I guess I have a pile of 10" and 12" tubes from the mini bikes too for short conveyors. My thought with them is that they are very narrow and when cut and turned inside out they might retain some of their curved shape. Hopefully this would create a bit of a trough shape in between the rollers keeping the dirt on? Anyone tried it?

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I made this 12" conveyor last winter, the belt is a tire tube meant for a small front tire on a garden tractor.

I've stayed away from tire tubes till now because, I can't seem to cut a straight line if my life depended on it and a tube limits the length of the conveyor. But now that you mention mold lines on the tubes makes cutting easier and the length of conveyor I need is based on my worksite layout. Instead of making a conveyor fit the site, I might have to make my site suit the conveyor once built. the tubes you have hanging on the door, approximately how long of a conveyor can you make with them? |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
You should be able to get some large tubes from your work connections hey Mario? I know a lot of the big stuff is tubeless but some must be tube type? One from an off highway log truck would probably make an 8' conveyor!lol That should be big enough! I saved a treadmill from the in-laws recycling. My plan was to use the belt for some RC conveyors but we'll see if that ever happens.

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
One roller in the background is knurled, but it is only 1 inch wide for a different belting material I tried yrs ago. I don't know yet if matters not to have a convex shape with the rubber belts, the current rollers I made have shoulders & the rubber is stretched quite tight, and the rollers aren't knurled either.
The tubes vary in length from 26" to 46", the thicknesses of the rubber vary too. In the 2nd pic (of previous page), the tube belt on the left is 46" x 2.25" & the conveyor frame will be 58". The one on the right is 36" x 3.25" tube belt & frame will be 48".

I want to set up my backyard in such a way that allows me to either just stock pile material the dump truck off loads from the pit or move the conveyor directly over the screener and process the dirt one dump truck load at a time. The second conveyor will be under the screener and move the clean material into a hopper which I can then use my 3 axle dump trailer to load and use around the yard. All controlled from a 4ch radio. 2 conveyors , the screener and a servo for the hopper chute. I thought about a crusher but I just don't have that type of material to deal with. No rocks or chunks so a mini crusher is on the B list right now. I tried cutting a few different types of splice into the rubber I have. diagonal, arrow, saw tooth, and your right. It's very difficult to keep it straight and no matter what, it won't survive long. Tire tubes it is like the old saying, KISS |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I don't think the thickness of the rubber matters, but the narrow width of a motorcycle tube might make it difficult to get a decent width belt... dunno, try it. The car tubes I sourced had mold lines around the circumference making it easy to hand cut parallel widths... that's the part that I think is probably the most difficult to achieve, if aint cut straight - it aint gonna run straight.
The curvature is somewhat retained, but with a stretch fit, a lot of it is lost. Probably still have to make an angled bearing'd roller to maintain V shape.
