As far as I remember, older 1030 cranes had a cylinder moving the first telescoping element and a cable/pulleys set up that "synchronised" elements 3 and 4...drop me a PM and I can send you a pdf brochure showing in detail how it works.
Of course, the cylinder can easily be replaced by a gear motor/screw combo
