Default New to RC trucks, first kitbash

Joined the forum in August and built my first RC truck, the Knight Hauler. Soon after I purchased and assembled the 3 axle reefer trailer.

Then I got the bug to try to build something that was at least a bit my own. Having been a rolloff driver in the past (straight jobs, not tractor-trailer) I thought I could take the Tamiya flatbed trailer and build a rolloff truck.

Pictured is the result so far. Used the Tamiya frame, axles and wheels, then added the hoist from tubular steel, plastruct fenders, simulated lift cylinders, etc. The hoist works (Carl Taylor "Piggy Taylor" mechanism from the UK) and the winch, which is a 1/10 Warn Winch from Tower Hobbies.

At this point I'm building a load for the trailer, a rolloff flatbed to carry cargo or vehicles.

Tried to get the images to display in the body of the post. Wasn't offered the option when managing attachments. Pictures uploaded directly from my computer.

Had to repost the video to Youtube. Forum rules don't allow me to edit the previous link.

Here is the new link for those interested.

The truck and trailer look real good. I also like the way the rolloff works. Now ya need a container to winch up on there and haul some dirt or debri

I ordered his tipping mechanism with the 100:1 motor. I chose that one because the lowe speed is more realistic, and the motor will provide more torque.

This is sweet! Had always wanted to see someone do a roll-off trailer and this one looks perfect!!!

Nice work,

Thanks for the great comments so far! Thought I'd post a few more pics since I've had a chance to work on the details

Here is the trailer. Weighs 8 lbs, which surprised me a bit. Not used to building metal models.

This is the flatbed with the CAT loaders. It weighs 7 lbs, which was more than I intended. The winch handles the load, however.

Hoist raised. This project turned out to be a lot of fun to build.

Hoist and winch controls. I don't have a 6 channel radio (and might have run out of room for the servos), so it's manual control.

The 8.4v, 3000mAh NiMH battery is forward of the landing gear and on the underside of the frame, where it just fit.

This is the motor and tipping mechanism I purchased from Carl Taylor at "piggytaylor.com" Works incredibly well.

Finally, the Warn winch from Tower Hobbies. I was surprised by how much it can either deadlift (when testing) or pull (when loading the trailer).
