Default Screw Lift & Dump Bed?

I was referred here by Lil Giants that you might be able to help with a screw lift and dump bed for converting my King Hauler to a dump truck?

Are you the man to talk to ?!

Yes Joe is right I can help. Here is a link to one of my dump truck builds that shows how to build the screw drive. Click here If you would like I can put together a parts list for the screw drive. The dump beds I make are just made of styrene.

Travis,

Thanks for the link. Your work looks to be of very good quality!

I am actually a designer/model builder (not R/C stuff, it's an actual degree/profession) and I typically have access to all sorts of good machines to do this stuff. However, I am in the middle of a job swap right now.

Thanks
Matt

Travis,

Do you have a close up photo of the screw drive at the end with the thrust bearing? Not sure I fully understand what you have going on there.

Matt it is just a lock nut that pushes on a thrust bearing to allow the rod to spin freely as the rod pushes against the rear block. I drill through the rear block and use the lock nut against the thrust bearing to set the preload of the rod so as the dump goes up and pushes on the rear block it does not allow the rod to pull on the gear motor.

Hey Travis, thanks for the clarification. I've seen that pic before, was hoping for something closer up.

Does PMD still sell that motor? I saw somewhere that you said that motor was a 50:1. So what RPM is that? Just trying to understand what speed yours is at and if you think slower or faster would be better. I've been looking elsewhere for a motor/reduction combo but haven't seen anything else at 50:1.

Thanks
Matt

Thanks for the link Alan.

Isn't the RPM critical in order to know the true output?? I obviously don't want it to go to fast and look unrealistic or cause damage, but at the same time i don't want to stand their all day waiting for the bed to go up.

At 20 threads per inch, 120 RPM would get you 6 inches of movement in 1 minute. That may be a little bit too slow for what you want but it would be a very strong lift.

Trust me and go with the Carson gear motor and you can get them form Ric or you can order them from overseas.
