Default Dozer Upgrade

I want to upgrade my die cast dozer conversion and thought I might try replacing the track drive servos with right angle gear motors or maybe some DIY worm gear arraignment.

Anyone have a source for small right angle gear motors or worm and matching spur gears? I'm dealing with a small machine, so the typical windshield wiper style is going to be way too big. My two standard size servos just BARELY fit between the side frame rails.

I have seen this on servo city but it looks a bit to weak for my application.

Thanks Bo, lots of stuff to look at both places! Might be fun to try and build a gear box with right angle or worm gears.

I see on the second site they list the worm gears as right or left. Does that mean I should NOT try to turn them backwards for reverse gear motion of the dozer? I don't understand exactly how they work? I could probably use right angle gears. Is there a reason to use one vs the other is a setup like I'm planning?

You turn motor clockwise / right : if you want the result to be opposite use left turn and so on. If you use worm gears you got brake for free.

You'll get additional reduction with a worm drive vs straight cut bevel gears in a right angle gearbox. But (maybe it goes without saying) precise centering of worm gear backlash over main gear can be difficult to achieve too.

Has anyone ever tried to build/run a track machine with a single motor driving a differential and brakes for steering? That's how the full scale stuff works correct? Or at least the old time stuff I think?

Actually I think it is slipping clutches over braking
