Default Importing from EU into USA

Hi friends on the other side of the pond...!

I have a friend/customer who wants to order a scale art truck and import it into the USA/Virginia.

Obviously, when the kit leaves the EU sales tax is not added, making the kit 19% cheaper, however, when it lasts on US soil, does it attract an import tax?

Anyone know or done this recently?

Thanks
Elliot

Yes I do import from all over the world. By law you have to pay tax It depends how and who sending the item and what the value is declared in the document. Sometimes things show up and no tax is charged. but as a buyer I have to pay duty and tax. just to not get slammed later by the taxman. Example below: Some things you pay duty on some not. Import is Toy R/C Motorized Car. Total customs value (FOB): US$5000.00
This is the amount that customs values your import at

- Duty: US$0.00
- Merchandise Processing Fee: US$25.00
- Internal Revenue Tax: US$0.00
Total import duty & taxes due: US$25.00
This is the amount that needs to be paid to customs

Total landed cost: US$5725.00
This is the total cost of importing, including product, shipping, insurance and import duty & taxes.
As you can see it would not hurt so much. If you fail to do it will hurt if and when the angry taxman sow up. Here is a link from my lady at the office.
http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-im...ils/187653682/ Duty rates in the U.S. can be ad valorem (as a percentage of value) or specific (dollars/cents per unit). Duty rates vary from 0% to 37.5%, with the average duty rate being 5.63%. Some goods are not subject to duty (e.g. some electronic products, or original paintings and antiques over 100 years old).
Stay safe and warm
Bo
