Default Super Bling trailer mods

Hello all. Since the day I got my flatbed trailer from Tamiya I had one complaint....Too short!!! So I thought of making a B train to reduce that effect. I ordered another flat bed and started making plans how to get the 5th wheel in the proper place and height on the back end of my original trailer. Well, after more thinking and looking at what I could do, I scrapped the b train idea and chose to lenghten my original trailer buy using the frame rails of the trailer I just got.
So here's some pics of my progress so far......

Trimmed the back end of original trailer

Cut front of new rails off.

combined new rails with old trailer

Im thinking maybe a heavy haul 4 axle trailer?

I fixed your links so the pics would show up instead of a link to the pic. When selecting a link from photo bucket select the bottom ling which is IMG code and the pic will show up instead of the link to it. If you have any questions on posting pics just ask and we can help.

Nice work on stretching the trailer and I think it would look good as a quad axle.

Thanks Travis for fixing the pics. This was my first attempt at using photobucket and was wondering which link to use.
Glad you like the quad axle, we do have lots of them on our highways up here in Canada.....besides, got lots of parts in box, may as well use em...lol
Thanks again, no more thumbnails from me!

Thanks Dabears, glad you think it looks ok.
I cut the rails the old fashion way... A mini hack saw ! Made my cut mark lines with a exacto knife and then just slowly but surely made the cut. Actually turned out nice and clean and straight. Not everyone has a milling machine, bandsaw and lathe at their disposal, so do what you can with what you got I say. Lol

Forgot to mention, new trailer length is 38". The mod added 10" to trailer.

Thanks for lookin and your input!

Thanks for looking.
I just knew someone was going to ask me about the uprights..... They have to stay on for 2 reasons....#1 - the main use of this trailer is to haul beer to my back yard gazebo. When friends are over for drinks , I load the trailer , sit in the house looking out a bedroom window , and drive the load of beer out to the gazebo. Everyone gets a good chuckle when I do it , honking the horn as I arrive....lol
With the uprights I can lay 3 cans or bottles across the deck perfectly and then stack 2 on top of that, the chains then keep it all secure. The original length trailer could hold 15 bottles or 26 cans ! New length should hold a complete 24 bottles.
Reason #2- when I installed the additional trailer side rails I wanted to hide the seam. I did this by cutting original rails very near to the uprights mounting block. The seam is hidden behind the mount. No uprights means my seam will show.
Future plans is to find a way to secure cans or bottles to the deck without the uprights and cover up the seam with a decal or something.

Thanks for looking

Mario

Looks good, I like the quad axle as well, You can also use a dremmel to cut frame rails, just run it at a lower speed!!

See, I do have a Dremmel but when I made a test cut i didn't have good control and was worried about going crooked.... Mind you though, I had the thing on super high speed. &)$@/'%#{
I still have a few plates to cut. I definitely will try at a slower speed. Thanks dude!

Hello all.

Got some more work done on trailer.

Using front part of cut rails I found a perfect fishplate to use.

then completed securing frame rails. By stroke of luck, the location for suspension mounting plate also tied in the two rails and gives direct support at the joint!

Now a straight, super strong rolling trailer...

And a quad axle trailer needs quad tail lights right?

I have a SS tronix wireless light kit with 20 extra leds on order so cant do the floor yet but have an idea how to spruce it up...

I might try a arrow type seam or zig zag....going to experiment.

thats it for now. Thanks for looking!

Yes. Uprights are coming off now.... I cut up and layed the floor down and was looking at the leftovers when I suddenly had an idea. I used the boards to create a rack that holds cans in place.....check it out.....

and if your having a really big party.......... full trailer is 45 cans

looks better without uprights and now I have holes for the lights ready to go..Thanks for lookin.

Thanks Swagger, I said the trailer was 38" long. My calculation was wrong, it measures 39" long so scale length is 45.5 ft which is completely reasonable and much more proportional to the truck. Glad you like it.
Been up north at work for 12 days now, 2 more to go.... My wife called to let me know I got a package from ss tronix. My wireless light kit has arrived along with the motorized leg kit from tower hobbies! If 14 days living in a camp ain't bad enough, knowing I got goodies at home to play with makes it almost unbearable!!! Can't wait to get home and finish my flatbed..... Oooops, I mean, can't wait to see my wife give her a hug and kiss, and then finish my trailer. Lol
